Volvemos a fijarnos en otro grupo descubierto gracias al fantstico catlogo de Cloudberry Records , al que tendramos que dedicar el blog de forma monogrfica si quisiramos abarcar todas las bandas interesantes que all aparecen. Alright. Since I saw you last, we've been blessed with a beautiful baby girl and two major surgeries that seem to have my son pointed in the right direction healthwise. Minisnap are essentially the legendary New Zealand band the Bats sans group leader Robert Scott. Though one of my favorite albums of 2008, Bounce Around , has not generated much hype around the interwebs. It seems that a group of middle aged kiwis lacking their principal songwriter would deserve a quiet reception, but guitarist Kaye Woodward leads the band through 12 fantastic pop songs. Lead-off track "Bounce Around" should clear those winter blues and have you shaking your hips around the living room thinking that getting older doesn't seem so bad. So here's my list of best singles, album tracks, and EPs from 2008. Unlike my Best Albums List, songs that were from a 2007 album but were released as singles in 2008 are eligible. But single reissues are not. (Which is why Friendly Fires and Pacific are absent from my list.) With the concept of the "album" diminishing in this world of digital downloads, singles are becoming more important. In Latin, they used to say, De gustibus non est disputandum . Roughly translated it means, I'm right and you're wrong. No really, it translates to There's no accounting for taste . Minisnap are a side project of beloved Kiwis The Bats featuring the songs of Kaye Woodward accompanied by fellow Bats Paul Kean and Malcolm Grant along with Marcus Winstanley of The Undercurrents. Minisnap's appropriately titled Bounce Around album is another one of those records that has been neglected on these pages this year, but certainly not on my stereo. I meant to write about it in March when I bought it from Rough Trade, but again I profess a lack of time and my slow writing skills as pathetic excuses. Back in March and even now I couldn't believe that Kaye Woodward had been holding back so many great songs over the years.
