We've been doing up the floors in our house, stripping out the carpet, repainting the walls, painting the trim and doors, and laying down a rich brown woven bamboo (hence the lateness of this post and the general lack of posts this week). Remember that Weird Al parody of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" where he has all the marbles in his mouth? That thought couldn't help but spring to mind as "Funeral Song" by MINKS was on rotation. The mumbling is endearing, though, as if lead singer/songwriter Sean Kilfoyle is almost too shy to enunciate what he wrote. Instead, under swirling fuzz, chugging bass and melodic guitar strums, he weaves tales about summer and alcohol that only the most developed translator can fully interpret. Minks - Little Fawn Like a young fawn Minks have brought this tender doo-woop sound with one of their 2 new singles out last month via Captured Tracks. The shuffle of the organ gently inside my head as if I were riding a merry-go-round. This is a really nice depature from their classic showgazey sound from their stellar LP By the Hedge .
