Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Releases Nick Helderman On his second album, 'Was I the Wave?', Graham Van Pelt aka Miracle Fortress embraces a glossy palette of synthesizers and drum machines, one that has doubtlessly surprised fans of his sunnier, crunchier and more guitar-based Polaris Music Prize -nominated debut, 2007's 'Five Roses'. Ironically, making 'Was I the Wave?' found him feeling altogether less of a shiny, happy person than he was when [...]

MIRACLE FORTRESS // Was I The Wave? Montreal, Canada based producer and musician Graham Van Pelt delights the senses on his sophomore album, Was I The Wave? It has a great show-gazey feel that is perfect for a mellow day. Latest tracks by Miracle Fortress photo via Miracle Fortress on Facebook Music to your ears - from mine - with love. [...]

From the Miracle Fortress sophomore album "Was I The Wave", here's the first listen in "Miscalculations", a track that I've been waiting for since hearing live at CMW. Leaning into the mid tempo electronic side of things, this song not only sounds in the ballpark of Junior Boys (who Miracle Fortress is touring North America with), but gets me excited to hear the rest of this album. Check out " Miscalculations ".

Miracle Fortress is not only a group from du nord ( Canada aye) but also the nick name of my house on 4 square.. so there is that ha! Kidding.. I don't use four square, but if I did I would totally be sure Miracle Fortress was the mayor of Synthertonpopulis. This release is... well IMO a 180 from his last in so much that it is just 24/7/365/1980-ish to mixed results! Was I the Wave is out rightaboutnah (Funk Soul Brother) via Secret City Records and overall tis rad and , for [...]
If you tuned in to yesterday's show (or if you checked out the playlist/archive ) you know that the Featured Album of the Week was the new Miracle Fortress , Was I The Wave? , which came out yesterday on Secret City Records. I've been in love with Miracle Fortress (aka Montreal's Graham Van Pelt) since 2007's dreamy Five Roses , which was one of my favorite releases that year. To me it that album was starting to kick off chill [...]

"Was I the Wave" is the name of the new album from Miracle Fortress released today via Secret City. My fondness for Miracle Fortress runs a couple of years now for the Montreal native, Graham Van Pelt. The new album plays like a wonderful daydream where you find love and one of those rain storms where the sun is still shining brightly through fast moving clouds. You can pick up your copy of "Was I the Wave" here . Miracle Fortress-Miscalculations [mp3] Tour Dates [...]

Toronto - Last week was a big week for several print publications - there was the re-branding of Eye Weekly as The Grid and Canadian publication Exclaim! magazine celebrated their 15th anniversary at the Wrongbar on Thursday with two of the hottest acts in Canada - Montreal's newly minted electro act Miracle Fortress and London rapper Shad . As you may have deduced by now, we were there on Thursday night. Armed with drummer Greg Napier at his side, Miracle Fortress had the pleasure of opening the night to a [...]

Frank Yang There's not a lot of cross-Canada tours that skip over Toronto, but the Exclaim -sponsored country-wide trek headlined by Shad , and for this leg also featuring fellow Polaris shortlist alumni Miracle Fortress , looked to be doing just that with Thursday night's show at Wrongbar presented as a private show, attended by contest winners and attendees of Exclaim's 19th anniversary party which went before the show. But it's not as though either artist had been strangers hereabouts lately - both [...]

Photograph by Nick Helderman As a fan of one-person music projects and guitars layered with lyrics of love, Montreal-based Miracle Fortress dovetailed perfectly into my music collection. The summer of 2007 was bathed in the melodies of Five Roses , a beautifully dense album which made it on our list of top 20 Canadian albums from the aughts . When Van Pelt returned to Toronto in March for Canadian Music Week, the difference was striking. Accompanied by a drummer and effect lighting, he provided a danceable live preview of Was I the Wave? , [...]

Toronto - After impressing many people with his new material at Canadian Music Week, Montreal's Alex Van Pelt aka Miracle Fortress is back and hoping to carry forth that momentum with a series of cross continent tours. The first tour will see him teaming up with the Canadian rapper du jour - Shad for the Exclaim ! Anniversary Tour. The second leg of his journey will see him team up with fellow Canadian electro rockers Junior Boys. Miracle Fortress's new album, Was I The Wave? comes out in May. The dude actually acted [...]

Norman Wong I never really liked Katie Stelmanis. I am not referring to the person - I don't know her but I'm sure she's lovely - but her musical project which, circa 2008 at least, was named simply for herself. In Spring of that year, I saw her twice in the span of a week and a bit and while I acknowledged that she was up to something interesting with her distinctive, operatic voice and skeletal synth-and-percussion backing, but it wasn't doing it for me and as such, I didn't pay much heed [...]

East Vancouver’s Shad and Miracle Fortress came out to Saturday to represent at Fortune Sound Club. A nominee for 2007 Polaris Music Prize, Miracle Fortress is another one of Secret City Record’s gems. Explained as “bedroom club,” their indie pop sound is highly versatile, delivering heavy tech sounds and plenty of reverb. Most of the kids I chatted to post show had no idea who Miracle Fortress were before tonight - but every single one of ‘em said they would check the band out [...]

The Sunday Supplement that almost didn't happen. Miracle Fortress is the music project of Canadian musician Graham Van Pelt, based out of Montreal. Was I The Wave? , is his most recent release on Secret City Records, and it has been getting a few plays on my iPod this week. The whole album is pretty chill - but my hands down fav track is Miscalculations , a perfect Sunday tune. Van Pelt's voice is reminding me of someone - I just can't quite figure out who. [...]

Although I am yoked to the school schedule, I don't get paid for the school holidays, so, nice as the holidays were, I returned to work with a certain amount of relief today. Glad to be earning a few bucks. And glad too, after a couple of hours getting back in gear, to recalibrate to a work environment where you are the weirdo if you don't make jazz hands and bawl the entire lyrics to 'It's a Hard Knock Life' (Annie, 1982) to a child before lunch. I'm glad to be at work, in short. [...]
