Save me from my audiophile ways! Ratatat had a line 3 blocks long, didn't get in. But I did see Blitzen Trapper, Mirah, Blind Pilot, The Slants, Blubird, Teeath, and Thao and the Get Down Stay Down. i'm kind of tired now. i went to the after party and a security guard the size of phone booth went ballistic and grabbed a guy and sat on him, why, i do not know, but the guard had the guy in a really painful looking stress position for several minutes even though [...]
by liam g So I asked my fellow QC staffers to hook it up with the crazy text messages they receive throughout their daily lives. As for me, I know that I send and receive the craziest shit on the regular. For whatever reason, only a few of my friends have answered the request and I've grown restless in waiting. To get the ball rolling, here are a few texts (VERBATIM) that I received or were forwarded to me this week. I bequeath that QC readers start sending them in, [...]

The real post is above, but I just wanted to get some music on the Hype Machine, as these tracks are so good, they're practically demanding to be heard by more ears. These came from last Tuesday's The Five Best Songs You've Ever Heard: Part 2 . A. Devendra Banhart - Seahorse ( Alt: YSI ) - Modern Jethro Tull? Hell yes. B. Katie Herzig - Shovel ( Alt: YSI ) - I think I’m breathing and that I have everything I could want. And then I hear her voice, and that [...]
Mirah show has now been moved to Richard's, running for the lengthy period between 8pm-10pm (doors at 7pm).
8 . 20 .08 Update This update is long overdue. However, with all the happenigs of the past and coming months I'll keep things brief. This past Spring we celebrated our 9 year anniversary with 7 shows and 24 bands from the label's history. Thanks to all the bands, venues, poster designers and everyone who was able to travel long and short distances to be with us to mark the occasion. In [...]
No, it's not from the movie . Did that sound like Christine Baranski? Sick." -- Tom, assuring everyone that he played the legit ABBA version of "Does Your Mother Know" "Oh, absolutely not ." -- Spike, informing Tom that John McCain is not running as a Democrat "Trust me, you want to convince people in Oklahoma to vote for Barack Obama, don't send a bunch of New Yorkers out there, people from the East Village going door-to-door." -- Tom, persuading Cynthia not to ruin the election by invading [...]
So "Fruits Of Your Garden" by the brainy-sensitive singer-songwriter Mirah debuted at No. 64 on SoundScan's digital-tracks chart this week, selling 22,000 units after moving not even a dozen the week prior. Reasons behind this staggering leap are hard to find through the usual sources (by which I mean "Googling the title to see if any Yahoo! Answers pages come up"). Anyone know what the deal is? (And whatever the reason, I'm really glad that Mirah—not to mention her label, the indie stalwart K Records—is getting the extra scratch.) UPDATE: The song was on So You [...]

Ghost Town in Oakland, CA put together another amazing night, and Agent Ribbons totally owned it. ...wait. You probably don't know who they are huh? Agend Ribbons is a two piece (both pieces are totally hot babes) who play bluesy, indie-pop inspired rock; they remind me of early Rilo Kiley , or Tanya Donelly . Or maybe even something like Camera Obscura (Glasgow, not San Diego). The girls are on tour right now, trying to make their way across the [...]

philadelphia native mirah cant help but share a sweet sincerity in her vocal tones that then surprises and pushes the boundaries of being assertive within respect of staying far away from being too pretty. along with the help of longtime friend calvin johnson and collaborator phil elvrum of the microphones, dictated in mirah's 2008 k records release the old days of feeling , unreleased and obscure material from her past is presented that brilliantly connects to the very present. shared inside a well known use for hard crashes of loud instruments, her unadulterated resonating sounds [...]

I first heard Mirah unknowingly as background vocals on some tracks of the Microphones almost two years ago. After doing a little research I discovered Mirah and her wonderful music. Her new album "The Old Days Feeling" was released today. This is actually a compilation of old and unreleased material. Though these songs weren't meant to be together as an album, it still feels coherent and could be treated as an album. Many of the songs are pretty light, perfect for the summertime. The second track "Slighted" has an old school ska groove that almost sounds like a better more [...]

I’ve never really been able to listen to anything on Advisory Committee by Mirah other than “Recommendation,” because I’ve always figured that was all I needed to listen to. I don’t consider myself a fan of Mirah, or familiar with her voice, but I was still compelled to check out her album, The Old Days Feeling , which is a compilation of rarities and never before heard tracks. The sound of the songs on The Old Days Feeling really does provide a nostalgic mood. There’s a dash of reminiscence on this record, [...]
Portland lo-fi artist Mirah has a new album of out-of-print, reissued or previously unreleased material out, and what I've heard of it shows why she's made a name for herself in the indie community. Mirah "Lone Star" (mp3) from "The...
