Well, this update comes to you a couple weeks behind schedule, but hopefully I'll be able to justify the wait. Enjoy! I've discussed Morcheeba recently, and this is one of the songs that have made them a listening staple over the past few weeks. While the acoustic version of the song preserves the vocal, you really miss the wicked turntableism and thumping percussion that makes the studio version so very enjoyable. I also forgot to mention that Skye put out a solo album last year, [...]

YACHT (better known as Jona from the Blow ) is set to release his awesomely titled LP, I Believe in You. Your Magic is Real , on Marriage Records . This first song, with its bassline lifted directly from the Knight Rider theme song, is the absolute jam. If you liked the Blow 's Paper Televison (and who didn't?), I'm pretty sure you'll love this too: mp3: YACHT See a Penny, Pick it Up [...]

And on today's show we have... You Think It's Like This But Really It's Like This Mirah It's raining outside. Not the whiny pitter-patter rain, but big blobs of water that fall a little heavy. The big green grass field you can see outside the window's now a decent shade of olive. And right in the middle is a girl. She couldn't be more than twenty [...]

Alright I just realized I didn't give you guys much of a taste of Mirah's music - so here goes. Also the reason for the speculation is that I believe the Microphones track posted is actually Mirah singing. Listen to the last two tracks posted (Advisory Committee & Between Your Ear And The Other Ear) back to back and try to tell me you can't notice some similarities. I don't believe it's a coincidence that they have almost the EXACT SAME lo-fi, semi-out-of-tune guitar riff at the beginning. It's like trying to tell the difference between [...]
It was a bit challenging to make this list because most of the bands I'm in love with I've either already seen or they are dead/broken-up/don't tour. But here we go: 1) Built To Spill (or Doug Martsch) has an intensely faithful fanset. My friend Al (who turned me on to them) has seen them half a dozen times, and I would bet most fans have. They write some of the best indie-rock there is. They were supposed to play the Filter party at SXSW this past year, but didn't show up. [...]

(RIGHT-CLICK TO DOWNLOAD ENTIRE PODCAST) I offer you another selection of lovely, lonely songs featuring female vocalists. A bit late for the Halloween season, but perfect for these damp, dark autumn nights. All songs feature a string section in one way or another. Haunting and [...]
Five Assorted Tunes: The Tragically Hip - Fly (from their new album World Container .) "Fly" is one of the songs on which the Hip unfortunately resort to filling in lyrical gaps by singing "That's right", a crutch they're too good to need. It's something that might make the song annoying on repeated listens but so far, it's still one of my favorite songs on the album. First single "In View" is jangly fun. "Family Band" and "Luv"(sic) are also standouts. "The Lonely End Of The [...]
Finally back from Kentucky and completely exhausted - it's been almost a week of not getting enough sleep ending with an all-nighter, and having to catch a flight out of Lexington at 5:30 AM. Ick. So needless to say, I plan on spending a great deal of time in the next few days sleeping. A bunch of new albums have just come out that I will talk about later this week (Decemberists, Hold Steady, Chin Up Chin Up are the big ones), but I'm a little too wiped out to get started on that today. [...]

Mirah, one of Portland's finest experts, and one of indie's leading ladies, is about to have her butt reworked. Dozens of people have taken on the ordeal of remixing Miss Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn on her new remix album Joyride: Remixes . Remix albums seem to be pretty popular these days, from Bloc Party to Grizzly Bear, everyone likes seeing how other people can screw up huge chunks of their discography. Well with remixers like Anna Oxygen, YACHT (1/2 of The Blow), Tender Forever , Mt. Eerie , and Khaela Maricich [...]
The latest entry in the Burn to Shine series is out, and this time the house-burnin' is taking place in the musical hotbed of Portland, OR. For those unfamiliar, Burn to Shine is being produced by Fugazi's Brendan Canty. They travel from town to town, finding doomed houses, assembling a lineup from the local music scene, and shooting the acts doing a single song each in the living room before

For nearly 15 years residents of Androscoggi n County in Maine have lived in fear of a mysterious creature that lurks in the night. An evil beast with glow-in-the-dark eyes and the most terrible stench you have ever smelled.  On Saturday this ravenous mutant, who in recent years has been tied to the death of a Doberman pinscher and a Rottweiler, was ran straight over by a car in an attempt to chase down a cat. Here are the pictures.  http://www. fox news.com/story/0,2933,208683,0 0.html [...]

For the longest time, I rather inexplicably had the idea that Mirah was a British pop singer and so never bothered to listen to her songs. In reality, she is a lovely Jewish lady (with an even lovelier voice) living in Washington. Perhaps to complement this certifiably angelic voice, more than a few of her songs feature a harp. Just in case the description up to now sounds like she sings church hymns, let me regale you with some lyrics from Dreamboat - "How about some of that lubrication / 'cause this motor's gettin' ready for some fornication." [...]
First post, hope this is acceptable. Bright Eyes, for those who don't know, is the musical child of young emo prodigy Conor Oberst. His album I'm Wide Awake It's Morning was highly acclaimed, and includes duets with Emmylou Harris. I first heard this song at my first Bright Eyes gig at The Prince of Wales in Melbourne, Australia. To me, this song really engages with the problem the modern world has separating religion and state, as well as, more obviously, being an attack on George Bush's administration. Bright Eyes- [...]
I just wanted to post this track because I love it. Thanksgiving-Dead Deer & Other Animals Advice: It fits well on mixes before Mirah's "Don't Die in Me." Okay fine here's that song too. Mirah-Don't Die in Me Buy Thanksgiving stuff from Marriage Records.

When I was younger, I always fantasized about having a GF who could sing, and sing well. I'm not really sure why, I've never really given it much thought. It just seems real sexy. The Top Ten Tracks Sung By Female Artists On My iTunes: ...in no particular order. [...]
