Me reviewing my photo during Human Eye set, photo taken by John Bodnar , 2009 Today is Gigawave's three-year anniversary, which also marks the day that Turbo Fruits return to the Replay Lounge this year. Therefore, one of the songs off Echo Kid starts out the mix. I originally made this mix as a birthday present to myself, but it's been a hectic week so I kept forgetting to post it until now. A mish-mash of my favorite songs, songs relating to summer or partying, and songs relating to, well, aging. [...]

For a few weeks now, I have been listening to and loving the debut-album from The Consulate General , "Person Number". The album is released today on Circle Into Square records, and it's a record you should spend both your money and your time on. Well worth it! The man behind The Consulate General is no debutant in the music industry. This is the new project from Boy In Static 's Alexander Chen , a Taiwanese-American multi-instrumentalist who is currently living in Gothenburg, Sweden. The album is full [...]

Tune in at 7! Spoon - " Monkey Feelings " (from Sister Jack ) Mike Doughty - " Looks " (from Skittish ) Mobius Band - " You Don't Know How It Feels " (from Empire of Love ) [...]

I wanted to call this the "slow jam" list...but it's hardly R&B inspired. This is about the "heartfelt" songs of the year. The songs convey a message to the heart. I can't really explain each song (partly b/c I just don't know how to), but also because it's hard to go into detail about slow songs. It's a subjective experience. This list goes all across the board, it doesn't matter what genre. I liked these songs for several reasons: 1) The vocals. 2) The lyrics. 3)The melody. 4) The mood. [...]

Misha is an Electronica group from New York comprised of model Ashley Yao and John Chao. They sound like an electronic based version of the Cocteau Twins, very soft, very airy, very dreamy. The interesting part of this boy/girl group is that John is the vocalist and apparently, Ash the producer. Interesting. Particularly since, I'm used to hearing lullaby vocals from Asian female singers, but not quite the males. And this man sounds like he's constantly singing a love lullaby for children. For non-Asian music listeners, this is somewhat unusual I guess. [...]

This is a busy week for me and god knows I should be doing something much more productive with my downtime than blogging--like doing the dishes--but here I sit trying to write something for Friday. So I'll keep it short. This is a great little song, with lots of electronic bleeps, a simple vocal and a very catchy melody. Misha is the band and the album came out last June. I heard it yesterday morning while exercising and decided I needed to share it. [...]
Misha - Weatherbees One of our favorite digital pastimes here at MFR has to be Katamari. Something about the game makes us happy. Makes our wives and girlfriends happy. Makes everyone happy. One of the best things about the series are the soundtracks, which take cute, eclectic emotions and bottle them into spiffy little jams that you feel happy rolling a little sticky soul ball around to. With the next Katamari installment imminent, I find my musical tastes wandering back in the direction of such musics. Enter Misha. They've already earned "Band to Watch" status on the 'Gum, and...

Laurie Anderson : From the Air (Dan the Automator remix) (2007) Misha : Summersend (Teardrop Sweetheart, 2007) Stereo Total : Ich Bin Der Stricherjunge (Paris-Berlin, 2007) Tegan and Sara : Back In Your Head (The Con, 2007) Tiny Vipers : On This Side (Hands Across the Void, 2007)

Misha , the New York duo consisting of Ashley Yao and John Chao which has previously released a limited 123 on the German Tomlab has released their debut " Teardrop Sweetheart " and it's a sweet home listening electronic pop album. Nothing groundbreaking or new here but there's a 11 short & catchy pop songs which mix together well with John's deep electronic easy listening stuff as perfected by many German electronic pop artists in the last years (eg. Mathias Schaffhauser ). Alright, I'll admit it's not the new Metro Area album, but [...]

New York, NY "Losing" Misha on MySpace Misha on The Hype Machine

I like to think that John Chao, one half of Misha , is in fact a castrated clone of John Lennon. I could have told you that Ashley Yao, the other half, is some kind of Yoko Ono's clone but as you know, no one wants to be Yoko Ono. Even Yoko Ono. This duet based in New York plays a mix between disco, pop and electronic music. Quite surprising but easy to listen to. Teardrop Sweetheart , their first full-lenght released this year by the German label Tomlab ( Casiotone For The [...]
"Gonna gather up a few of my friends," sings Jens Lekman on the first single from the forthcoming Night Falls Over Kortedala , which is just he did for his third LP, rounding up Frida Hyvonen and El Perro Del Mar to guest on the Swede-pleasing record. The record's also the not-so-silent Jens's sonic goodbye card to the Kortedala neighborhood of Gothenburg, Sweden which he calls home. He writes (via P4K ): What a depressing suburban hell this place is. Everyone goes to bed at nine, after that you can't see one single window lit [...]
Because I was out last night and I'm seeing Fujiya and Miyagi tonight, you get some quick hits: --- The video is a mashup of 50 Cent and "Yakity Sax," better known as the end theme for The Benny Hill Show . Boots Randolph, the creator of the song, passed away on 3 July. Art in Manila - "Set the Woods" Misha - "Cruelest Heart" I know nothing about either [...]
