I like to think that John Chao, one half of Misha , is in fact a castrated clone of John Lennon. I could have told you that Ashley Yao, the other half, is some kind of Yoko Ono's clone but as you know, no one wants to be Yoko Ono. Even Yoko Ono. This duet based in New York plays a mix between disco, pop and electronic music. Quite surprising but easy to listen to. Teardrop Sweetheart , their first full-lenght released this year by the German label Tomlab ( Casiotone For The [...]
"Gonna gather up a few of my friends," sings Jens Lekman on the first single from the forthcoming Night Falls Over Kortedala , which is just he did for his third LP, rounding up Frida Hyvonen and El Perro Del Mar to guest on the Swede-pleasing record. The record's also the not-so-silent Jens's sonic goodbye card to the Kortedala neighborhood of Gothenburg, Sweden which he calls home. He writes (via P4K ): What a depressing suburban hell this place is. Everyone goes to bed at nine, after that you can't see one single window lit [...]
Because I was out last night and I'm seeing Fujiya and Miyagi tonight, you get some quick hits: --- The video is a mashup of 50 Cent and "Yakity Sax," better known as the end theme for The Benny Hill Show . Boots Randolph, the creator of the song, passed away on 3 July. Art in Manila - "Set the Woods" Misha - "Cruelest Heart" I know nothing about either [...]

Summer TV is killing us -- so dire our plight that we've actually seen every single John From Cincinnati (after watching the first 20 minutes post Sopranos finale, we swore that'd never happen). Suddenly, that John and his magic trousers are totally engaging, in that anything-to-suppress-these- LOST / Office -reruns blues. ANYWAY, what happened to HBO? We still have Curb , but Entourage has become a lousy cartoon (how ridiculous is Vinnie Chase in that Escobar fat suit? Listen to E, Vince, that movie looks like shit). But just when we'd given [...]
There's something about electro-pop that goes great with summer, and pretty much all the other seasons. Whether you're just chill-beachin' some lazy days or busy at work, we found something everyone can enjoy! Misha is the NYC indietronic efforts of Ashley Yao & John Chao, with their friends Nunu and Andrew. I find that a lot of experimental bands don't always cut it with the lyrics, but this pop duo's songs are filled with pain & sorrow and happiness. The new Album "Teardrop Sweetheart," which dropped last week on Tomlab , is an awesome combination [...]
I'm little late on the Misha boat and their debut album Teardrop Sweetheart , out last week on Tomlab . Better late than never. Nothing groundbreaking or terribly unique but a great soundtrack to these rainy weeks we've been having lately in Texas. Misha - Scars ( zshare ) Misha - Summersend think tank

MP3: MISHA "Summersend" ( Pitchfork ) This pretty little summer song by New York's Misha seems like it was made to be enjoyed on an open-top road trip to the beach. Feel the rays bouncing off the hood of that convertible. The song appears on the album Teardrop Sweetheart , which was released last week. tags: music | mp3 | indie pop | Misha

Misha - "Shake a Little Looser" This is the only "strummy" song on Misha's Teardrop Sweetheart, but it's definitely the best. It's handmade quality is what sets it apart from the other blippy, disco-y songs (which are often good too, but not like this). He's got that George Harrison echo, and simple simple structure, but it's those little flicks, those little melodic winks, like the way your favourite person says your name, it's such a comfortable sound, so comfortable it makes you shiver. And the way this song ends, though understated, is what makes it great; it knows to give [...]
This week's releases features two highly anticipated albums with Icky Thump by The White Stripes and The Fragile Army by the Polyphonic Spree . I've only listened to both sparingly, so I don't really have anything to say about either. Outside of those two obvious releases, there are a few that I think everyone should really check out starting with Teardrop Sweetheart by Misha and We Can Create by Maps . They're both really excellent albums, with each having their own unique [...]

I've actually had a draft of this post saved since the end of May, which is when I heard Misha for the first time thanks to Travis over at Big Stereo (which has absolutely become one of my favorite blogs in the past few months, by the way). I don't really have any excuses for not getting this posted before today, except for the fact that I was spending too much time listening to Teardrop Sweetheart to be able to stop and actually write about [...]

Here's some proof that we're not all glow sticks and pom poms over here at BIGSTEREO. Misha's Teardrop Sweetheart recently landed on my desk and woah, totally excited by this album. Teardrop Sweetheart is the most perfect Summer pop album... totally timeless and delicious indie pop that you'll find yourself humming along with while chowing down on ice cream cones at the beach. I promise - or at least that's how my Summer is gonna be. With its bittersweet lyrics and an easy to like melody, "Weatherbees" is a great example of [...]
Yes, I know, yesterday was new music Tuesday. But didn't I promise you Wednesday advances? Because advanced is way cooler than day of...? Right? Harrisons - " Dear Constable " (mp3) (buy the album Dear Constables it will be out on June 4th!) Misha - " Weatherbees " (mp3) (buy the album Teardrop Sweetheart it will be out on June 19th!)
Over the weekend, we welcomed the unofficial start of summer . Many flocked away from their hometowns and headed out to the beaches, hills, and countryside to take advantage of the gorgeous weather. I can't say that I was particularly enthused about the start of summer, it's slowly becoming my least favorite season as the heat and humidity becomes increasingly worse each year and I already found myself layering on the sunscreen like clothing. But, summer also brings welcome balmy nights, outdoor shows, sidewalk dining, and the one thing that many of us discover each year, [...]
Misha "Crystal In Love" - It's a bit counter-intuitive, but it seems like falsetto vocals have been slowly colonized by a macho yet passive-aggressive element -- your Chris Martins, your Dave Matthews -- and as a result, it has become a signifier of THE NARCISSISTIC HURT THAT DUDES FEEL. It doesn't exactly ruin the technique across the board -- it's not exactly difficult to differentiate the merits of Keane and Radiohead, you know? -- but it does make me a bit suspicious of young guys who adopt the style. [...]
It's been an increasingly long length of time since I have posted anything besides the weekly Graboid. It's funny how every night I say to myself that I will write about something, but end up pushing it to the next day. From there it begins to quickly spiral from days and than into weeks. Thankfully, it hasn't extended into months as after seeing a few posts from someone other than myself has motivated me to post. It's almost like a friendly competition when you have others contributing, as you try to keep up with whatever bit [...]
