So, finally my 2009-list is done, a bit later than last year. Listening to all the stuff from this year, I had a mixed feeling... there were not as much outstanding records as last year, and a lot of bands I really looked forward to disappointed me. That being said, I've got a really amazing number one, which I will reveal in the course of the following weeks, hoping to have finished before or just after Christmas. I also will try to finish my best of the decade list by then, so I've got a lot of work [...]

[player] misophone - the sea has spoken ( where has it gone, all the beautiful music of our grandparents? it died with them, that's where it went... )
Almost on cue, Misophone return at the end of another year with a whimsical batch of songs that feel as out of time and place as ever. Staying very much in line with the hushed bedroom pop angle, as they did with last year's Where Has it Gone... , this time though they've balanced hints of an unsettling 30's circus vibe with the typical nostalgia of their warm pastures. Through the scratched sepia windows of their world you can see streets filled with carnival barkers, smell the tension of caged animals and hear the din of crowds. But contrary [...]

Be Glad you are only Human - an album out on the Swedish label Kningdisk - from the very English Misophone, try myspace buy review [...]

Who? Timber Timbre What? Lo-fi soulful Blues/folk Sounds like? Sometimes it reminds me of Misophone. Bon iver without all the layers and without the howling, and Devendra Banhart like he sounded on Oh Me Oh My. oh, and Woods. Timber timbre is a band that i had on my computer for quite a while now, and just today i rediscovered it. While browsing through my media library I thought "well, look at this...no idea what that is". I put new music on my pc [...]
A few weeks (months?) ago, I wrote something exciting about Misophone , and when looking for information about the new album getting released, I found out they had put my post on their myspace. Best part? (p.s we're working on getting those other albums released) Labels, you should really really get these guys. I mean it. anyway, new album coming out in November. Just go to their label and wait till the order-button appears. Starting from Now. Posted in folk [...]

I checked it. Last year i had a list by the end of Oktober. What kind of list? A list of the best records of 2007 , and a list of the 9 best upcoming bands , and then 2 lists of the most beautiful and ugliest album covers . I even had a list of bands that wouldn't make my lists . Yep, lists is the keyword here. I've been spending the last three weeks relistening the 314 (!) albums of 2008 on my computer, taking into consideration that i [...]

They're not kidding when they tell you they are experimental. Misophone at times sounds like indie pop, at other times I feel like I'm listening to some kind of nightmare induced circus music. And I'm awarding them a medal for having the longest album name ever created in history. Are you ready for it? Okay take a deep breath because otherwise you'll fun out of air with this one. Where Has It Gone, All The Beautiful Music Of Our Granparents? It Died With Them, That's Where It Went , is [...]
Photography by Katie Wow... right out of left field on this one. Mixing folk, pop, old-timey banjo porch music, Balkan music, a bit of Klezmer, and some trippy carnival sounds, Misophone have created an wonderfully crafted and compiled (the tracklisting is perfect!) album in Where Has It Gone, All The Beautiful Music Of Our Granparents? It Died With Them, That's Where It Went , man that's a mouthful. Each song creates an atmosphere drifting my mind (and ears) to some far away from here. [...]

One of the first really great releases I've heard this year actually came out at the tail end of last year but who's really counting anyway. The duo of S. Herbert and M.A Welsh has created a thoughtful, subtle folk-pop album that seems almost impossibly perfect. While, Where has it gone, all the beautiful music of our grandparents? It died with them, that's where it went... is really Misophone's first proper, label released album, it is in fact the duo's 13th collaborative recording to date. Playing on a coy sense of innocence mixed with Herbert's talents as a [...]
