Last year Mississippi Man busted out of Fullerton with a truckload of sweet melodies, endearing harmonies and a twangy EP, "The Snake Oil Salesman" that earned them immediate comparisons to indie folk/blues merchants Delta Spirit and Cold War Kids. Since, they've had a flirtation with an indie record label, played a mess of shows and slowly worked on a full-length — all the while trying to keep smiles planted on their faces. "The cool thing is, we've taken a lot of time," says David Knight, who with Luke Messimer is one of two singer-guitarist-lyricists in the [...]
Yes, this video's a year old now, but I'll use it to reinforce a familiar Buzz Bands mantra: early arrival recommended. If you are subjecting yourself to the overwrought strains of Kings of Leon tonight at the Hollywood Bowl (or if you're there for indie-rock veterans Built to Spill ), get to the amphitheater early for Nashville quartet the Features , whose 2009 album "Some Kind of Salvation" remains a house favorite at Buzz Bands HQ. Mississippi Man are a Californian five piece who go by the names Mumbles, Grumbles, Stumbles, Fumbles and you guessed it Crumbles. That aside they play a superb blend of Americana and country-folk that had us hooked from the first moment we heard it. Wonderful harmonies, rhythms and instrumentation with an edge make this one of our finds of 2010 so far. They released the wonderfully titled The Snakeoil Salesman EP last year, and are now prepping their debut long-player A-OK for a summer release. Taster track The Mountain is a corker [...]

Two bands we've had the recent pleasure of watching perform on our RUMBLE parties in recent months - MISSISSIPPI MAN and PEPPER RABBIT play tonight at The Echo for a show put on by LA Record. The boys in Mississippi Man have all the makings of rock legends in the makings, after having a friend hustle us for money one night and the next partaking in scandalous van activities, and then stepping on stage to deliver an amazing live set. They surprised us with a much larger sound than [...]

The new music from SoCal quintet Mississippi Man pulls the heartstrings into the penumbra between giddy folk/blues and vintage pop, and that is A-OK. Actually, "A-OK" is the title of the debut album singer-guitarists Luke Messimer and David Knight and their bandmates plan to release this summer. They've been recording since earlier this spring in an old warehouse, using an old tape machine, trying to realize that old adage that everything old is new again. ||| Download: "Mountain" (Mix 1) ||| Live: Mississippi Man, joined by [...]
