we're only afraid of NYC In the wake of last weekends fourth AvP gig, it's great to be able to welcome back one of our former acts, Glasgow's finest we're only afraid of NYC. It's been far too long since we've heard anything from the three piece, so their return is a more than welcome one, you can download their new single, 'Walls' for now via their Bandcamp page. The band play King Tuts this coming Sunday (28th August) as part of the series of RocknRoll Damnation nights. They will also be releasing another [...]

Right now I'm supposed to be writing the last minute plea for you all to attend tomorrow's Aye Tunes Vs Peenko gig. Before sitting down to write it I had a quick look at Twitter, and then at my email, and learned something that has made me really rather sad. It looks like we are losing, at least for a while, one of my favourite bands, Mitchell Museum . Copy/paste time first... Hello all out there. We've come to you with kind of sad news. Of late we have had a [...]

Fast because I need to squeeze eleven songs into an hour because I just didn't want to trim the playlist, fast because I want to get out into the back garden asap to enjoy the sun, and fast because um... well, just because. I dunno. Fuck you, anyway, this is the one-hundred-and-eighty-first stupid name for one of these damn things I've had to come up with. The names were bound to get worse over time really, weren't they. Anyhow, once this is done, I expect to get a couple of hours out in the garden before buggering off [...]

I have been promising myself a beak for ages now, but there's always been something that's sprung up that's made me keep going. However, seeing as it's the summer time and things are a wee bit quieter I have decided to cut back on my posts for a few weeks. I will still be posting the odd session here and there, plus I will have a few Fresh Monday posts and perhaps a sporadic ramble or two. However, there will be no Friday Freebies posts for the a few weeks and I'll also be taking a break from my Scots [...]
Video: Vimeo – YouTube Photos: Flickr – Blueback Hotrod Free mp3 downloads: zip file (right click – save as) I first got into The Scottish Enlightenment back in 2007 when they releases the Eyes single on Moojuice Records. Then they went silent for a couple of years, to the extent that I thought they might have actually called it a day, but last year they came back stronger than ever before. Two fantastic [...]

It's easy to say, isn't it, but oh so very hard to do: whatever else you do in the music business, never get into the habit of resenting other people's success. I had an absolutely awful temper as a kid. I don't think anyone I currently know has ever really seen me lose it, because it doesn't really happen these days. But I went through a couple of years of getting into fights, shouting at referees, smashing up things in frustration, and just generally giving too much vent to my feelings. Eventually I got myself sent [...]

The Seventeenth Century return with a their second EP, cunningly entitled 'EP2', on the 2nd May. The release will be available exclusively on Limited Edition 10" vinyl, which includes a free digital download code . The band celebrate the release with a gig at Oran Mor this coming Friday (29th), with support from The Scottish Enlightenment and Sunshine Social . Now that's one cracking line up if I do say so myself. Having caught 17C at the same venue just a few weeks back, I can vouch that they were in top form. The Scottish Enlightenment have [...]

If you're still not sure of Glasgow's Mitchell Museum after this one then you'll find a veritable treasure trove of freebies floating around their bandcamp . We've been fans for a while and seeing how the band kindly contributed 'Warning Bells' to one of our compilations we feel obliged to let as many know as possible how wonderful they are. Not that we wouldn't be shouting their name from the rooftops anyway because they are undoubtedly one of the finest purveyors of contemporary indie anthems. Their low profile is hard to figure but if their next record is as [...]

Apologies for the lack of a Friday Freebies last week, I'm afraid that I got struck down by a dose of the dreaded man flu and was pretty useless to man nor beast. On the plus side I now have a double dose of free shit to share with you all, bet your chuffed to bits with that news. Either that or you don't give two fucks and are too excited about the prospect of getting hammered tonight and eating the face of random strangers. Either here's this weeks freebies........ [...]

The kind people over at Winning Sperm Party gave away 5 free EPs for our listening pleasure on Christmas Day. They're all gloriously noisy and chaotic in their own little ways. Have a listen... The last week or so has been absolutely sensational for gigs in Glasgow. Some i did make, some i didn't make and one got cancelled altogether. Over the course of 6 days from the Tuesday (14th December) to Sunday (the 19th) there were some pretty amazing shows performed and played throughout Glasgow and it's various musical locations. Below i've compiled a list of the best gigs and included MP32s (where available), videos and links. The week should have began with Civil Civic but they sadly had to cancel their gig at The 13th Note last Monday. But since [...]

Tonight is the Electra French Records Christmas Party, so it seems only right that we go to one of the bands playing for our next Christmas song. All being well we'll be there, drinking much more booze than someone working on Monday should. It would be quite fair to say we love Mitchell Museum round here. From having them play the first Aye Tunes Vs Peenko gig to sharing first place in our favourite albums of the year we aren't shy about letting people know how much we love them either. This is because they are magic. [...]
