Future Classic's newest addition to their line-up, Brisbane's Charles Murdoch , first came across our radar last year with his masterful remix of Flume's Sleepless . He also happens to be part of the indie dance band Mitzi , who we're big fans of. His brilliant new track, No Lungs , which was just released through Future Classic this past Friday, is taken from his forthcoming EP that's set to be released on the label in July. It's a brief display of his uniquely constructed sound, and the burgeoning talent that we look forward to hearing much [...]

We first introduced you to Brisbanite Charles Murdoch when we featured his blissed-out track "Ahama" last year on our latest compilation . Today, Charles Murdoch has shared the first taste from his upcoming EP, the smooth tune [...]

Next week is the pledge drive, meaning all of you should tune in to my show from 10pm to midnight PST on Friday, April 12 and pledge your support for independent radio. For my April 5 show, I returned to playing primarily new tunes, opening with the stellar new track by Sweden's Lars Bygdén, dropping in a pair of tunes by San Francisco post-rock outfit Tartufi, and crossing the pond to Spain for an amazing track by Soledad Vélez. Here in Skagit Valley, we're starting to get some sun, and [...]
This single from the Sydney-based Mitzi feels like a very appropriate pairing to our wave of warm weather here in Chicago. Mixed by Metronomy/ Klaxons' Ash Workman, "Who Will Love You Now" "showcases Mitzi’s unique brand of garage disco, NYC indie and the light heartedness of Australian pop"[ 1 ]. - Follow MITZI: Facebook | Twitter | SoundCloud

[And so the last of our five days at South by Southwest came to a close — getting wowed by baby bands, plowed by the crowds and, at the end, sipping a colored drink on a rooftop watching Smashing Pumpkins rage through a free show while Prince and Justin Timberlake played free shows only blocks away. Only in Austin.] @KRBronson on Saturday at SXSW: One of the great puzzles of South by Southwest is sorting [...]
From their humble beginnings in the Brisbane music scene, Mitzi - not to be mistaken for a cute and cuddly cartoon character - made quite an impression with the recent release of their debut album Truly Alive two weeks ago. The Brisbane four-piece have created a quirky mix of 70s disco pop and fused it with modern mix of electro and indie dance music. We caught up with drummer and vocalist, Cale, for a chat about their debut album and what’s in store for 2013. SCENEWAVE: You’ve just released your debut album [...]

We were lucky enough to be approached by Beth Martinez of the illustrious Danger Village for our newest Substitute Teachers mix. She crafted a mix for us filled with romance and heartbreak, perfect for the season. Here's what she had to say about her creation: For February I wanted to celebrate all aspects of romance, from the sexy beginnings to the dark aftermath of heartbreak - and all the fun in between. I went with a slower build to this mix. I’m enjoying the sultry, introspective [...]

If we provided this music discovery service purely for other music bloggers, then there would probably not be much point in recommending this band. Although other music bloggers do indeed make up a significant chunk of all music blog traffic (still tiny compared to the rest), and we openly admit to adoring our online brethren, we actually write this instead for the insatiably hungry public. Whoever you are, if you haven't heard of Mitzi yet, then you are sure going to thank us. Mitzi are a Brisbane quartet that are all set to spread beyond their [...]

Mitzi present us with serviceable indie electro-pop. Future Classic, 2013 5.6 / 10 Brisbane’s Mitzi have shared the stage with such artists as Yelle and Neon Indian, and their music fits the bill...

Mitzi 's debut album Truly Alive is out now via Future Classic. Stream the full LP above and head over to your fave digital store and buy it.
Mitzi’s album, “Truly Alive” is a great addition to the Nu-disco scene with echoes of Poolside and Cut Copy throughout.

It's a big week for new releases, so let's get right into it. First thing on your shopping list: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds ' latest, Push The Sky Away . Fifteen albums in and Cave & Co. still create unique stunners. As our Music Director, Don Yates, says, it's "a masterful set of brooding, minimalist rock comprised of mostly slow-burning songs with rumbling guitars, mournful keyboards, eerie violin loops, stately rhythms and dark, evocative lyrics." So not so much the heavy rock of his Grinderman project, but if you're a fan if his ballads (and the [...]
