I'm not really a fan of mash-ups. Actually, when I see a mash-up, I don't even bother listening to it. But when Greg Wilson does a Fujiya & Miyagi & Madonna one, I cannot but give it a chance! And yes, I really do like it! Check it out yourselves! And the videos of the [...]

ARTIST: Fujiya & Miyagi - [Album] DATE: 03-22-11 REVIEW BY: Bill Adams There are few devices in the English language and arts more regularly abused by bands than irony. It happens so regularly that it would be easy to assume the logic behind it goes something like, "We've got this idea that we want to try, but would likely be mocked mercilessly if we pursued it. That would be bad, but it's [view more]

British electro-rockers Fujiya & Miyagi hit up Rock and Roll Hotel on Thursday (3/24), and we've got a chance for you to win a pair of tickets. Their fourth album Ventriloquizzing was just released January 25th on Yep Roc Records . David Best [Miyagi] (Vocals, Guitar) recently discussed the meaning of ventriloquizzing with Spinner , who call Fujiya & Miyagi's albums "electronic joys... music that [...]

The Animal Collective fan in me will likely always remember Lisbon as the place Panda Bear picked to record Person Pitch and to live with his wife and child. But now I can add Pedro Magina and his music to my list of Lisbon-based associations. Magina's Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five tape is out now on Not Not Fun Records , and though his music is nowhere near the sunburned, tropic-tinged sounds of Person Pitch , it manages to be just as meditative and [...]

Fujiya & Miyagi - Ventriloquizzing Yep Roc Records: 2011 If you want to know about this album, the first thing you should do is go to their website, and enter the sinister world of Fujiya & Miyagi. As you point at the options tabs - the ventriloquist's dummies undertake an array of menacing acts, such as exploding or setting on fire. Enough to give the more unstable of us automatonophobia. It kept me entertained; anxiously entertained that is, for well over two minutes, which is a lot [...]

Brighton-based band Fujiya & Miyagi was formed in 2000. Strange name for an English band? As explained by David Best (lead vocalist but also guitarist and keyboardist), the name comes from the movie 'The Karate Kid' and a brand of record players: "Miyagi was taken from the film 'The Karate Kid' and Fujiya was the name of a record player. It just looked really nice written down. And it was the only name we came up with". Fujiya & Miyagi are self-described as being heavily influenced by 70's krautrock bands such [...]

You know, there is something to be said for simplicity. I get a kick out of simple things. Take this video by Fujiya & Miyagi for instance. Some simple shots, some croping, color adjustment and bang, there you have it. A kick ass song doesn't hurt either.

HIGH END NEW RELEASE: You don't get a lot of electronic music on this blog, but it doesn't mean we can't get behind the right stuff. Lightbulbs from Fujiya & Miyagi is the best of it's kind this year.... a solid fusion of strong beats/electronica/ironic song structure and witty mixes. Easily the best since last year's LCD Soundsystem record; "Sound of Silver." ( RSL Top 15 Record of 2007 ) FUJIYA & MIYAGI are Winners: It's the experimental attitude expressed time and time again on this [...]

I was going through some of my favorite albums and came up on "Transparent Things" by Fujiya & Miyagi . A great album all around, check out the songs "Collarbone" and "Ankle Injuries" for a taste. But I got to thinking, "What are they doing now..." Apparently a lot. They put out a new album in September. "Lightbulbs" is the name of the album. So I do a little research and I come up with the video for their first single, "Kinckerbocker". The video is as catchy as the song...check it: Fujiya and Miyagi - [...]
