Lately I've been spending a lot of time listening to Strand of Oaks' brilliant second LP, Pope Killdragon , so I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Timothy Showalter recorded a few covers for Aquariam Drunkard recently. And while you're at it, do yourself a favor and check out Pope Killdragon . It was one of the best records of 2010, and you can preview the entire thing at bandcamp.com . But to get you started, here's Showalter performing one of the album's highlights, "Sterling," at the edge of a pier: [...]
SICK. This is just a great tune and the video is just sweet. Basto! is the man so I'll include two of his other gems as well in case you've missed them in the past. Basto! - Again And Again Basto! - Watchin' (Gregory's Theme) (feat Amanda Wilson) Moby - The Day (Basto! Remix) Related posts: Moby - The Day [...]

Peter Hook got by with a little help from his friends last week when he brought his band Peter Hook & the Light through Los Angeles to perform two seminal albums by his first band, Joy Division. On Sept. 14 the Music Box, Hook and his band ripped through 19802s "Closer," with Perry Farrell and Moby lending guest vocals. L.A. experimental duo El Ten Eleven opened. Lagniappe (la·gniappe) noun \ˈlan-ˌyap,' – 1. An extra or unexpected gift or benefit. 2. Something given or obtained as a gratuity or bonus. Welcome to the third installment of the Lagniappe Sessions in which we invite some of our favorite artists to cut exclusive covers paying tribute to some of their favorite artists. This week [...]

![[Sunday Pickup] Daft Punk, Justice, DJ Shadow, Moby, Mark Ronson, Basement Jaxx, Portishead & Many More Essential Mixes Circa 1993](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3728940_lg.jpg)
The Essential Mix Series on Radio One dates back to 1993, when on the 30th of October, Pete Tong first put out a mix on the show that became the first of hundreds that would grace the airwaves. Nearly 18 years on and they're still going strong as UK phenomenon James Blake put in a great sounding mix featuring just yesterday in the early hours debuting some brand new material from himself along with a wide spectrum of other musical genres. After posting the JB Mix I received a tweet from some friends over [...]
Why Moby never sampled this track will always remain a mystery. Sun Ra's "Door to the Cosmos", the centerpiece of his 1979 album Sleeping Beauty , provides that perfect entry point to Motor City Drum Ensemble's DJ Kicks mix, an effortless blend of jazz, soul, afro-beat and various shades of Danilo Plessow's signature deep house. The track, with its soulful gospel intro and the rest of its casual free-jazz, sounds like one of Sun Ra's more laid back efforts even whilst remaining entrancing as ever. That too mirrors the mix as a whole which works [...]

Exactly five years ago today, I did something that would come to define my entire life for the next half-decade. I boarded a flight at John F. Kennedy International Aiport in New York City with a round-trip ticket to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and back again. I never did get on that return flight six months later. In fact, it would be nearly two years before I'd once again step foot on U.S. soil for the wedding of my friend Amy G. By then, Buenos Aires was home. I'd made good friends there; I'd bought a great apartment [...]

Bassist and band founder Peter Hook has been entertaining Joy Division and New Order fans for most of his natural born life. And it doesn't look like he's stopping anytime soon. His new band, Peter Hook & The Light will be performing Joy Division's Closer and Unknown Pleasures at the Mezzanine in San Francisco this Saturday. While we here at B-Sides are excited to hear this resurrection of a post-punk classic, we're also a bit saddened for Hook. Apparently, he hasn't been [...]

After arriving back in Cambridge for another delightful year of cluttered class schedules, early morning practice and two a days, and 17 feet of snow come October, I was thrilled to discover that there is a plethora of EDM goodness coming to Boston. It looks like the Boston hipsters have wised up and embraced EDM over indie as the new thing to hate. I hate hipsters. Embrace will be presenting the first of many events at the Middle East club by bringing in Bot and Phra to crook up some delectable vitamins with their flangers and ringmodulators. The Italian duo [...]
Moby 's 'Lie Down in Darkness' is the second single to be taken from his current album, 'Destroyed'. Its melancholic dreaminess should relax your mind if you're still suffering from a Reading/Leeds-induced hangover. The single is available now. Click here to view the embedded video.

Well it's my first weekend back in Montreal, so of course this calls for a extra-special selection of tunes. There's been a slew of great new releases recently, including the new Tyme/Lyfe & Syne EP from NT89 that I previewed a few weeks ago . This one did not disappoint, every track is pushing the envelope for techno and setting the bar pretty high for everyone else. As if that wasn't enough, this week we also have new tracks from a few of my favorite producers, including Deadmau5, Pleasurekraft and Clouds. I hope you all enjoy this playlist as [...]

One of my favorite bands, Tokyo Police Club , is currently in a 10 song in 10 day cover challenge all being sponsored by Polaroid. They will cover one song from each of the last ten years. Their first take from 2001, is a cover of Moby and Gwen Stefani's hit "Southside" featuring some additional vocals of Morgan Kibby from M83. Considering they only recorded this in a day (which they will do with every cover), this indie rock update sounds fantastic. South Side (Featuring Morgan Kibby of M83) [...]
Over the next ten days, Tokyo Police Club will be releasing that they call "10 Songs, 10 Days, 10 Hours, 10 Years", first of which is a cover of Moby's 1999 classic "South...

Tokyo Police Club 's cover experiment is currently underway.
