This week's adventure into vast and unknowable sonic worlds comes courtesy of Suum Cuique. The aptly named Intonation is the lengthy foundation to side 2 of Suum Cuique's Ascetic Ideals LP. Echoing bass hits sketch out the dimly lit boundaries of an enormous hull. A psychic shape worthy of Stalker. A chiaroscuro gift from Geiger, all monotones of flesh and metal. The looping resonance of a distant unholy war invades this space. Straight from hell through analogue oscillation and into this industrial vista. A shipyard for the Event Horizon. And yet, with all those allusions to [...]

Modern Love pode não ser um dos maiores e mais marcantes clássicos da carreira extremamente produtiva e variada de David Bowie , mas está entre suas faixas mais divertidas e despretensiosas. Para sua participação no projeto A.V. Undercover, do The A.V.

Latest addition to the TUFFEM UP! releases, is 80s influenced Kristine . TUFF records is showing some diversity with this signing, Kristine has been loved over here at Trashbags ever since we listened to "Modern Love" which featured here Kristine is much more than influenced by the 1980s synth movment, she is the 1980s, her music is authentic, as you would hear from Pamela Stanley or stevie nicks, this is legitimately the real deal. [Modern Love] As much as we would rather not think of ourselves in this way, in some respects we're all primarily consumers. In few areas does our consumption mean so much as in music: what we choose to consume (as well as avoid) is how we indicate our taste and expand our knowledge. As a vinyl buyer, there's a ritualistic aspect of consumption that [...]

Modern Love is a gritty, Mancunian label specializing in the deeper, darker side of things. Performing at All Tomorrow's Parties' I'll Be Your Mirror London 2012, curated by Mogwai and ATP, Modern Love heavyweights and drone and ambient enthusiasts Demdike Stare released the first two parts of a four part release last month. Last month Modern Love posted this mix by Demdike Stare on their Soundcloud that gives a glance of their more atmospheric side - touching on some Middle Eastern guitar, boys choir material, elementary jazz fusion and even disco-y acid house: [...]

"I wanna be straight, I wanna be straight, I'm sick and tired of taking drugs and staying up late..." Following up on a conversation with faithful reader Holly in the post below this one, here's a fun showdown between messrs. Richman and Dury. And as a chaser: a hot quartet of not so straight jazz cuts. The Modern Lovers - I'm Straight Ian Dury & The Blockheads - I Wanna Be Straight Art Pepper - Straight Life Thelonious [...]
Manchester-based producer Andy Stott has been busy over the last year, releasing two lengthy EPs that have recently been brought together for a double-CD package courtesy of Modern Love . Passed Me By and We Stay Together are the two EPs making up the release, both exemplary of Stott's ambiguous style which never permits itself to fit any particular definition. While there is an underlying darkness to Stott's work here (as with the majority of the releases on Modern Love ), many of the tracks on both EPs are notably dance-floor influenced [...]

It's pointless to pretend that I listened to 10 albums that were released in 2011, so I'm going to write about 10 classic albums that got a lot of airtime in my waxy ears this past year. 10. Peter Murphy - DEEP (1989) The reunion cash-grab tour seems to be here to stay and let's face it... it's hard for me to fight my curiosity. Last month, I saw Peter Murphy for the first time in 13 years-it wasn't a reunion or comeback tour by [...]
It's taken a few days, but I've compiled a marathon playlist that is 4.6 hours in length (just in case I fuck up miserably and need to listen to something in the "whoops! wagon" during the assisted ride to the finish line). I used songs from my own 18-week training program that seemed to have [...]

It's been a while, hasn't it? Rather than trying to catch up on every single release that I missed (I imagine that would take another while), I decided to share the releases that have spent the most time in my headphones over the past months. There is no rhyme or reason to my choices here, and the only common denominator is that all of them are absolutely beautiful pieces of music, regardless of whether they commit to techno or ambient. Andy Stott - We Stay Together (Modern Love) [...]

Words by Brendan Here's a tip: if you make reference to a bunch of bands I like and say you sound like them, there's a good chance I'll probably listen to your music. There's an overwhelming amount of new music out there these days, and having some kind of filter to say, "Oh hey, I might like this" is incredibly helpful. Now, that said, you gotta deliver. I don't fall in love with every band that says they sound like The Modern Lovers , The Beach Boys , and Pavement . [...]

Image by Nicolas Kennedy Sitton [ Modern Love ] Over the past 18 months Modern Love have been creeping ever closer to musical epiphany. From Demdike Stare, the Andy Stott mini-albums and solo work from Miles Whittaker, to this debut release from G.H. (Gary Howell, the other half of Pendle Coven), their in-house style has become ever more extreme. This extremity [...]

MODERN LOVE, 2011 // LP / BUY: VINYL / DIGITAL I've been a huge fan of Andy Stott ever since I've heard his debut LP Merciless for the first time back in 2006. Dude's been putting out some of the most exciting techno transmissions in recent memory and I list all his releases in the 'buy on sight' category. Released on the Manchester-based Modern Love imprint (the only label Stott has ever released music on), We Stay Together is [...]

Image by Cassander Eeftinck Schattenkerk [ Modern Love ] Earlier this year, Andy Stott released Passed Me By , a mini-LP that confounded popular opinion on his sound. Stott's prior work tended toward shimmering dub house and dub techno, often distinctive but never especially risky. Passed Me By could feasibly be called dub house or dub techno too, [...]
