I'm really happy with this mix, a bit of an homage to the new music from Manchester that the internet is so good to allow me a window into from afar . And damn it, it should be a good mix. It's a new year, I've been switching between new and vintage themed mixes, all of which are the result of a good deal of research and noodling. I hope you enjoy this one too, awkward, painful, and torn love letter that it is. [ cover image from the internet k-hole ] [...]
If you have been followed the Baba Black Facebook page, you would know that they promised new releases and a lot of edit/bootlegs in 2013. Lucky for us, they kept their promise and we've recieved a bunch of edits/bootlegs which we will share with you next time. We have been on the down-tempo groove for some [...]

It's been a great year for Nightdrive and for me personally. There really is so much music to sift through but I've compiled a list of my favs from the past year that I found particularly interesting, effective in the club, or just inspiring during those private bedroom jam session. I'd like to thank all these artists for their dedication toward their art and for creating for us these gifts that we can enjoy as long as our ears work. It was hard enough to whittle it down to ten songs, so these are in no particular [...]
He might be the silent partner on the Chrome Kids Radio Show but as well as being a damn fine artist, Snowskull is one of the family's true musical connoisseurs. Here he compiles his Top 10 Tunes for 2012. John Talabot - So Will Be Now Session Victim - The Haunted House Bwana - Baby Let Me Finish(Black Orange Juice Remix) Rumpistol & Red Baron - Anywhere Anywhere by [...]

I mean, so our household was fairly excited for the new Modeselektor album. And, yes, I am aware that it was released in September 2011! But in my defence this year has been fairly crazy. Modeselektor hold a special place in my music collection and heart. This track has been a regular feature of my MP3 player, computer playlists and frequently finds its way onto our bedroom stereo. The very excellent Pretentious Friends featuring Busdriver. I also think many of you out there would appreciate This featuring Thom Yorke. Unfortunately it [...]
The antithesis of the most disappointing albums of the year, these records that had no business impressing us as much as they did. The antithesis of the most disappointing albums of the year, the list calls attention to the records that had no business impressing us as much as they did. How dare they sweep in with low expectations or no expectations, slipping in between releases by more acclaimed bands and artists whom we knew would give us great records, and charm the pants off of us? These pleasant surprises are a nice mix of records from established...

Last we heard of Dark Sky was following their triumphant four track return to British label Black Acre Records . Black Rainbows marked a distinct turn for the three boys from South London, as they chose to follow their more tribal, junglist tendencies, forgoing the glossy euphoria present on their debut effort for Modeselektor 's 50 Weapons imprint, 20112s Radius , and specifically its lead single, Neon , for something distinctly darker - in the words of our own sam.i.am., it was "playfully moody." Though the Myriam EP [...]
"Hi, I am Bambounou (Jeremy Guindo). I live in Paris, China Town. This is also where I grew up. I am now 22 years old. Orbiting is my debut album." With only a handful of 123s on his name since 2010, Frenchman Bambounou pulls up to 50 Weapons in his ghetto-proof debut album 'Orbiting'. It's gotta be the most [...]
Sonar Festival , formally titled an International Festival of Advanced Music and New Media Art, has announced its first of many acts to be featured in its 20th anniversary celebration in 2013. So far, we know the festival, starting in February, will be featuring stops in Reykjavik, Cape Town, Tokyo, São Paulo, and rounding it out in Barcelona in June as usual. Some (but not all) of the stops on the festival will include exciting new audiovisual shows from the legends Kraftwerk and Pet Shop Boys, as well as performances from Hot Natured [...]

Benjamin Damage has taken time away from his frequent collaborations with Doc Daneeka to produce his debut solo album for Modeselektor's 50Weapons . The new album, 'Heliosphere', comes hot on the heels of his recent 'Swarm / Headache' 123, also on 50Weapons. His first LP, 'They!Live' produced with Doc Daneeka, was hugely well-received and set the benchmark in a lot of critics' eyes for future Damage productions. However, 'Swarm / Headache' marked a departure from Benjamin Damage & Doc Daneeka's garage-tinted sounds in favour of a straightforward techno approach. Regardless, [...]

"Helft uns mal. Was sollen wir spielen: alt oder neu?" Die Kommunikation mit dem Publikum im ausverkauften Berghain haben die zwei Modeselektor-Jungs voll und ganz drauf. Nicht umsonst kassierte...

Modeselektor are an electronic band from Berlin. The duo originally met in 1992, but it wasn't until 1996 that they began performing under the guise of 'Modeselektor'. They signed to BPitch Control in 2000, having met and befriended Ellen Allien. A series of singles, EPs and remixes ensued, along with exciting collaboration with Parisian rap group TTC as well as Berlin wunderkind Apparat under the name Moderat. Modeselektor began to draw international attention and soon snagged the ears of one Thom Yorke, who declared his love [...]
