So I've compiled a mixtape over at the other blog ( cavacool ) I contribute to. It's composed of a few artists that I've already discussed here at ATM and a few I have yet to delve into. Overall, it's 28 tracks of French electro/indie pop, Spanish dream pop, hip hop trip hop, d'n'b r'n'b, house, dance, nujazzz...you name it and at least one of the featured artist covers it in some way! Modeselektor (aka Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary) and Apparat (aka Sascha Ring) have reformed as Moderat. Moderat’s formation began back in 2002 when Modeselektor and Apparat recorded an EP, Auf Kosten der Gesundheit . Before recording their debut, they suddenly broke up. But now after seven years, they have reformed and are releasing their full-length self-titled debut. The album was recorded at Berlin Hansa Studios (where David Bowie recorded Heroes ), in order to record the album in analog using the studio’s vintage tube technology and an old EMI console from 1972, restored especially for Moderat. After reading an article on that guy on Ohh! Crapp and completely agreeing with what it stated, I decided to present this great producer from Germany named Siriusmo. I do think he's one of the most interesting DJ on Boys Noize records, though I think D.I.M. can be really good. This guy is smoother and more harmonic but does not put aside the crunchy electronic sound that share almost all producers on this label. Modeselektor seem to be getting bigger and bigger these days, playing larger festivals and working on a wide range of collaborations with some of the best in electronic music and high figures such as Radiohead .
