Jean Giraud has been a part of your life ever since you can remember. This is something I have had to explain to everyone who asked me who he was and why he is so important. Over the last 50 years, this Frenchman went from comic book artist to path-breaking figure by changing the way we imagine. Giraud might have passed away on March 10 but his legend lives on through his work which consists of a huge body of quality illustrations, designs and story-telling. This art belongs to a dimension of its own and discovering this dimension evokes a [...]

Jean Giraud was a French comic book artist. He was known for creating the cowboy comic Lt. Blueberry , designing sets and costumes for some of the most important science fiction movies ever made. The visual idea of the 'future' that most people have in their heads has been influenced by science fiction novels, comic books and films. It would not be an exaggeration to say that this idea is something Jean Giraud has influenced greatly. There have been few artists who have exercised such great influence on the way we [...]

moebius-plank-neumeier - "all repro" (download) In 1982, Kluster 's Dieter Moebius collaborated with German producer Conny Plank and Guru Guru drummer Mani Neumeier to release this Krautrock-meets-electronic-mee ts-dance LP Zero Set. "All Repro" is one of the standout tracks from it. buy

Tracing the constellations of classic krautrock, you can't get too far without bumping into the boys of Cluster, also known by their excellently mellifluous names Moebius and Roedelius. You may have heard their collaborations with Brian Eno, but their solo work often achieves the same high level of textural minimalism that remains completely engaging at nearly any length. The kind of ambient that almost refuses to let a book or zone-out overtake your mind. Which is a good problem to have. So, in turn, we have Moebius doing movies... Dieter Moebius - [...]
...Dieter Moebius!

Moebius's third release at Bump Foot is a concept EP called "Quinque Dimensiones" (five dimensions). "It combines broken beats with dark analog bass lines and filtered melodies being inspired by the first five dimensions of space. Each track is dedicated to a different dimension: length, height, depth, time and finally reality. So, please fasten your seatbelt and feel invited to a musical trip through five dimensions to explore space from these different perspectives." Length (4:50) Height (4:55) Depth (5:27) Time (3:54) Reality (feat. Darsho) (7:09) http://www.archive.org/details /foot175 [...]
I feel like there's been some backlash against Arch Enemy in the comments section the last few times we posted about them, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. They've never released a bad album, and their live shows are still fun. So I'm stoked to hear Khaos Legions, their latest [...]
A hazy black and white television, freed from it's cheap veneer housing sits awkwardly on a fragile brown table, its cathode ray tube naked and blaring. Through a dust caked window, Attack Ships perch on their gigantic scaffolds, cloistered beasts awaiting an electronic impulse that will signal their initial, sluggish roll away from their moorings. The television shows an orchestra from an indeterminate time performing a single note over and over in a breathless loop. A royal guard approaches the most corpulent Attack Ship, their hard worn uniforms offset by the celestial fanfare that blares over the lashed [...]

We mentioned 'Forge Your Own Chains' in our round up of '09, time to give it a proper acknowledgement. Released on Stones Throw subsidiary Now Again , it's a terrific collection of weeping, psychedelic ballads & hallucinogenic dirges. A must for anyone with ears. Available in all the usual places . Ofege- It's Not Easy (Download) A good portion of the Cluster/Moebius back catalogue has been made available digitally for the first time via the Bureau B imprint. Dieter Moebius's debut long [...]

Why isn't this something more people are talking about? Perhaps I just wasn't listening, but the first studio album in 14 years from krautlords & premium collaborators - not just with Eno but, in a couple of Sundays' time , the de-hibernating Tortoise too - Cluster is a landmark that merits a bit of a fuss. I feel fanboy breathlessness coming on... What's more, Qua sounds both as expert as you might expect with 40 years' pioneering experience behind it & way [...]

Why does it take 65 year old Dieter Moebius (ex-Kluster/Cluster and Harmonia) to produce a proper soundtrack to our collective futures? I mean, what are the bloody kids up to? It's all very well them shooting hordes of robots dwarves on their I-Boxes, but shouldn't they be connecting piles of analogue electronics together and providing us with a soundscape for what is yet to come? As my vision of the future involves more than just a smattering of retro-futurism, and thus includes jet-packs and hover-cars, perhaps it's a little unfair to criticise the kids in this way. Having [...]

Before Cluster, there was Kluster. Before Kluster, & ever since, Conrad Schnitzler. All three of these over-lapping Teutonic pioneers have exceptional albums on Important that document their ground-breaking wrestles with electronic cold & warm, noise & sweetness - all the way back to 1971 & up to 2007 (when Cluster made what must have been a triumphant & was certainly an unrelenting return to Berlin after an absence of nearly 40 years...). Completists will share LMYE's sad train-spotting excitement that Important will expand this canon further this year. A [...]
