Frank Yang One of the music stories of 2011 was the return of Kate Bush from whatever misty English castle she'd been hiding in since releasing her last album, Aerial , in 2005. It began with the curious remix/renovation project Director's Cut in the Spring, but was followed by a proper collection of new works this Fall in 50 Words For Snow . And there was much rejoicing throughout the land. To mark this - and also [...]
Black Partridge comprises two brothers from Illinois. The duo have a unique sound that fuses lo-fi rock and pop with caressing sentiments of shoegaze and dream-pop. The older brother, Vito, plays the bass guitar while Mick takes over vocals and guitar. While the pair has yet to release an album, they have four songs available [...]

Stumbled across these guys recently via Lauderdale. Their EP is on pay what you can at Bandcamp - recommended and worth paying for, lush folk pop in the vein of Mojave 3 and The Loose Salute. EP by Belle Adair Homepage Facebook

Got to be honest and say what caught my eye before I'd listened to this album was the mention of Mojave 3 , who's album Puzzles Like You is a one I return to time and time again, the connection…………former Mojave 3 drummer Ian McCutcheon breaks out from behind the skins to take a role front of stage and at times you could be listening to Mojave 3 as his vocal styling is similar to Neil Halstead's, McCutcheon shares vocals duties on the album with Lisa Billson and Charlotte King, completing the line-up are Alan Forrester, Robert [...]

Corner Time, Volume One, Part Two remembering, seattle, wa; date forgotten I am certain all manner of things I thought I had forgotten will now come up through my skin, leak out from my eyes, coat my mouth. The ache of loss is tempered by time. Now it is a dull ache, but it stays with me, like the smell of home and the sticky sweet taste of memory. Download [...]

The rather wonderful Band of Horses have announced that Dilly will be the next single to be released from last year's Infinite Arms album. The video for Dilly was inspired by biker films of the 1970s and it sure looks like it must have been a lot of fun to make. If you don't believe me then check it out for yourself here. The single itself will come backed with an exclusive cover of Cee-Lo Green's Georgia Furthermore, the [...]

The two of you who wish you could have more of Any Major Dude With A Too Long Name, there is some respite: I am now part of the collective over at Star Maker Machine that blogs and posts music on a weekly theme. The SMM blog has long been a favourite (I think I found it through the now sadly defunct and much missed Setting The Woods On Fire country music blog). Readers who have sampled my blogroll might also have happened upon Cover Laydown (or came here via Boyhowdy's fine blog). [...]
Last week we premiered yet another new playlist mix: The Sunday 25 Mix (aka, S-25 Mix). The mix featured 25 songs from any genre and any time in music. We were thrilled with the results - you guys just ate it up. So, it's definitely going to be a staple of IRC, indefinitely. The S-25 [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
I have heard several people complain about this phenomenon of "lo-fi" artists. Why hide songwriting under layers of incoherence, they usually ask, if the songwriting is allegedly good? Being one of the more popular lo-fi examples, Ariel Pink is one of the first examples they use. I then usually ask if them if they have [...]

Myspace Though I suspect they fall just on the wrong side of the bands reuniting vs profitability equation for them to ever get back together - if Radiohead couldn't convince them to do it a few years back and open for them in their mutual hometown of Oxford, no one can - there's still just enough going on with shoegaze godheads Ride that I can justify leading a post with this website's namesake once in a while. And in this case, it's that Under The Radar [...]

Many of the sites I've featured in the "Other Stuff You Might Like" series have a common thread: excellent, impromptu concerts by established and upcoming musicians. We've looked at Luxury Wafers , Black Cab Sessions , They Shoot Music - Don't They , and NPR Music . (And I'm sure to get around to Daytrotter before too long...) Now, from France, we've got the excellent blog La Blogotheque, and its excellent Take-Away Shows (or, if you prefer, Les Concerts à Emporter ). The site's catalog of artists is truly amazing, as [...]

LA based band Letting Up Despite Great Faults had released their debut LP in late 2009. This relativley new electro-pop band, brainchild of Mike Lee is a intersting mesh between the lo-fi/shoegaze/whispering style of the many turns Neil Halstead took during his long career with Slowdive , then Mojave3 , then his solo career, along with 80's influences like New Order , and Bloody Valentine . [...]

So. Despite my general disdain for television, I kinda might have sorta gotten addicted to Friday Night Lights. It happens, on occasion, when an exceptionally good show crosses my path, and even moreso when it has an ace soundtrack. At the urging of several friends with really good musical taste, I began gorging myself on the first three seasons on DVD right around Thanksgiving and I'm just catching up. The best I can explain, in its finest moments, this show feels like a Springsteen song in small towns and the fires of youth, all come to life in [...]
German electronic maestro Ulrich Schnauss has been producing his own albums since 2001 when Far Away Trains Passing came out on Berlin's City Centre Office label. Heavily influenced by My Bloody Valentine and other shoegaze bands such as Chapterhouse and Slowdive, his own output has always been every bit as atmospheric and spatial as the milder side of Kevin Shields et al. What Hr. Schnauss is especially good at is applying his musical approach to remixing songs for other bands and gathered for our pleasure on this album are 14 of those remixes from [...]

Private Eleanor Baltimore, Maryland United States It's been another hard week and I'm feeling a little lazy this evening so tonight's post is just a reprint of the words on the Private Eleanor Last.FM site. Now you know I wouldn't normally do this but it's a really well written and accurate portrayal that sums them up better than I probably could. [...]
Dal nuovo album, "We Built A Fire", in uscita per Morr Music. Ancora retrogusto alla Mojave 3 e tanta eleganza. MP3 Seabear- Fire Dies Down MySpace: Seabear
Formed from the ashes of legendary shoegaze gods, Slowdive, low-fi sadcore outfit, Mojave 3 traded in the rever b pedals for a strippe d down somber sound. After three solid ethereal space-laden albums under S lowdive, the band became Mojave 3 in 1995 and created an eeri e, other-wordly beauty t hat pays homage to [...]
The Autumn equinox has come and gone with a mere whisper, and we've been enjoying jacket weather by nightfall for some time now here in New York City. The pleasant shift in season mirrors a shift in my musical tastes, as I tend to crack out more dreamy, reflective tunes to celebrate the falling of the leaves. I've already made mention of one of my all-time seasonal favorites, but there are dozens more to choose from. Naturally, this calls for a video playlist, complete with a few extra hidden gems for your clicking pleasure. Let's begin, shall [...]
