Anyone who was unfortunate enough to have well-meaning-yet-clueless relatives knows the feeling of disappointment. After weeks of anticipation, staring at the shiny boxes under the Christmas tree and wondering what's inside, you eagerly tear open your presents. What lies inside? GI Joes? Transformers?? A BB gun? A new Nintendo?!? Mind racing and adrenaline pumping, you [...]
:: Live Nation was all, "Hey, we lost a bunch of money." Then, surprisingly, their stock went down 11 percent . :: This warms my heart so, so, so much . :: Not only did Lilith Fair have to cancel a bunch of dates, but now Carly Simon is withdrawing from a few dates thanks to a foot injury. Where's my refund? :: Did you see all those covers for the new Arcade Fire album ? Pretty awesome, right? No wait, wrong word. I [...]
Molly Hatchet return with some epic Southern rock workouts

I heard this morning about the death yesterday of artist Frank Frazetta. If you're a comic book aficionado, you might know Frazetta from his work in that field. I learned about him from seeing his art on the cover of Conan the Barbarian paperbacks, then later, on the cover of Molly Hatchet albums. As an aspiring artist, I was intrigued by not just the detail in Frazetta's work, but the figures he portrayed: Vikings, warriors, barbarians – the lot of them seemingly coming from post-apocalyptic times despite their own ancientness. It was not just what [...]
Nowadays, classic metal seems all the rage - some cool kid told me this while walking to the market - and with MetalSucks doing the whole "Ten Great Bands That Inadvertently Helped Ruin Heavy Metal" thing, I got to thinking: how did metal become metal? We all know the Sabbath/Priest/Zeppelin "who started heavy metal" debate, [...]

And, yes, that's Glimr member Ankle The Mimic 's prosthetic leg. And, yes, the band drank bourbon out of it while making this album. Well it's a new year and it's time to get back to the regular life and put those vacation days behind us. To help celebrate the new year let's turn back the clock 30 years when a bona fide classic rock album kicked us all in the ass. Flirtin' with Disaster is the second studio album by southern rock band Molly Hatchet, released in 1979. Probably their most well known album, with the title track being their best known song. The album is a 40-minute tour de force spearheaded by a triple guitar attack and [...]

We're not just about the classic tracks here in F45 Land. We like them crazy young'uns and their rock and roll, too. Michael Franti And Spearhead with Cherine Anderson - Say Hey (I Love You) I've loved his message since I first heard Stay Human while walking through Virgin Records at Union Square. Are we praying with him for change in this country come November 4th? Hell, yes. Molly Hatchet - Flirtin' With Disaster [...]

No Guts...No Glory is the fifth studio album by Molly Hatchet, released in 1983. Failed experiment Jimmy Farrar on lead vocals is gone and original vocalist Danny Joe Brown returns for this recording. This album saw the band return to its more overt southern style it had displayed on its debut record in 1978. Right away on the first track "What Does It Matter?", in the opening riffs, Danny lets loose with his banter, and there's no mistaking who's on vocals. However, with the addition of keyboards into the mix, the band managed to take this sound to an [...]

Somebody's Gonna Be Pissed About This One In celebration of Madonna's 50th birthday, an artist by the obviously fake name of Rush Vizette has rented a space in London called the Red Gate Gallery to show off some art work he calls, with no hint of self-aggrandizement, " Cow's Blood, the Bible & Madonna: The New Controversial Pop Art". The 16 pieces of mixed media [...]

Today in Music History: 1941, Born on this day, Robert Zimmerman, (Bob Dylan), US folk singer, songwriter. Released over 40 albums since 1964, major influence on The Beatles and The Rolling Stones during the 60's. Molly Hatchet's 1978 debut album can be ranked up there as one of the best debut albums of all time. This is one album I never tire of listening to. Although branded as Southern rock, many of the tunes on this album border on metal. From the opening chords of the first track, [...]

Since moving back to Florida, I sometimes feel that I have stepped back in time. Two differnt occasions today, while stuck at an intersection in my car, I overheard Southern Rock from the 70's blaring out car stereo speakers. The first was Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird and the second was Sweet Home Alabama (from the same band of course). I wouldn't be surprised if the tunes were being generated from a cassette tape. Southern rock has a very special meaning to my past. Having moved to Florida when I was 17 (that would be 1977 if you are [...]
