Brooklyn's rising four-piece Mon Khmer have commissioned friend and musical guru Karuna of Bumblebeez to remix the stunning track "Anniversary," from their recently released digital EP "Birthplace."

Lazy songs wiht a repetitive rhythm guitar beat. Bostonians Mon Khmer have released a self-titled debut EP. They moved to Brooklyn to carve a niche in the electronic shoegaze scene, with a jazz twist as their unique selling point. They sound awfully English for an American East band, incorporating bits of The Smiths and the latter day Cure. Vocalist Hammarsing Kharhmar has been spinning David Bowie records ad infinitum and he does a rather good job with his phrasing, but he hasn't quite got the power and depth of the Thin White Duke. [...]
Brooklyn's own indie pop outfit Mon Khmer put out a new EP recently dubbed Birthplace, and you can stream the six-song effort in full right now via The Musebox. The band are also playing a show on November 17 at Pianos as part of the residency that's being shared by Hooray For Earth. (mp3) Mon [...]

Mauro of Porcelain Raft Around nine hours into the day, we embarked for the final chapter of this year's CMJ. The destination was Glasslands, a venue that I'd heard much about, but hadn't actually visited until now. It's a small room, with an intimate low stage and a striking, fluffy backdrop that turns molten hues (at least on film). There's also a seating area overlooking the stage, a la Bowery Ballroom. It's a really cool space, and a fitting end to CMJ, which is supposed to be about new experiences. The showcase, [...]

Ah, the annual running of the music hipsters - aka CMJ . The annual College Music Journal's music festival hits New York once a year in an effort to give fledgling bands the opportunity to get seen by industry honchos, journalists, bloggers, and the odd fan or two who forked over a pretty penny for a badge. I started out my conquest of CMJ 2010 slowly, with a light day one - heading over to Lovin' Cup's back room performance space, Cameo Gallery to see Class Actress [...]

Ah, what better way to start night number two of CMJ than with some yummy sliders and band-themed drinks? CMJ and LimeWire Store's press mixer was held in the swanky Hotel on Rivington, and for the record, we were particular fans of the DOM Collins and the Drums & Coke. Later, I headed over to Public Assembly for a party hosted by forthebeat/Transparent/ABC News Amplified, and caught a set by Ryan William Lynch, a.k.a. Dominant Legs . Lynch's recorded work is lovely, sunny pop, with [...]

I was suppose to be a sponsor for this CMJ party tomorrow but have been so busy with my business stuff that I never got around to it. For all you Le Miel du Mois lovers this show is a Steph Lund production just take a look at the line up and you'll see not something you want to miss... We've added a few bands and we're REALLY excited. Don't forget to RSVP (info below) and get there on time because the show is FREE and capacity is limited… [...]

Here's a sampling of a few bands not yet profiled here, who are also set to appear. ++Otherworldly Brooklynites Mon Khmer' s debut EP Birthplace is out on the 19th. They will play PS122 on Friday the 22nd.: [...]
