Over the next three night's the Devil will be bringing you the best 12 entries from his Glastonbury ETC list that didn't make it into the final three. Any of the artists featured over the next three nights would give the final 8 selected by Michael and Emily Eavis a run for their money. This will give you an insight into how high the standard of the entries in this year's competition was. It'll also give you a chance to tell me I was wrong. So, in no particular order here are [...]

Monarchs From: Falmouth, Britain Judging doesn't get any easier the more I work through my Glastonbury ETC list. The latest band to catch my ear are noisy punk pups Monarchs . The ear bashing It's All The Same sounds like Gallows after an anger management course. It's raucous, ferocious and impassioned recalling Sham 69 at their terrace anthem peak. They may [...]

When you have to handle a full inbox everyday and most of the mails are labeled like 'THiS IS THE NEXT BIG THING', you really get careful and sensible for selecting the right ones to open. Fortunately this mail dropped into my inbox with a nice voice of understatement. It just mentioned: Low Leaf, 17th November at Monarch, Berlin. 'Who the f**k is Low Leaf?' Well, the answer was quite astonishing: The beautiful Low Leaf is a harpist, guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer at the same time! Inspired by the Californian [...]

Introducing the debut full length release from San Antonio singer-songwriter Nicolette Good, Monarch was recorded in Austin's Ramble Creek Studio using the studio vintage kit and a host of instruments traditional and quirky, including a microKORG, music box, banjo, piano, organ, double bass, pedal steel and guitar effects, none of which though outshine the sweet vocal though, all good. Singer/songwriter Jessica Corazza and producer Patrick Morrissey come together in Manicanparty, an intense pop-alternative group with deep indie roots. There most recent single, "Bow Through My Heart," was released in July. Their poetic lyrics tell of relationships, struggles, and a rebellious spirit. Corazza's style is similar to a younger Florence Welch, of Florence and the Machine. [...]

Armed with the bare essentials, the duo that makes up Nervous Cloud are officially nominated for "Least Amount of Instruments Featured on The Record Stache." The winner will be announced at the end of the year when I will hold my annual awards post. I'll probably forget about this empty promise by the time December rolls around, but then again, I've remembered more forgettable things. With just a guitar and a set of drums, Nervous Cloud provides our ears with some no frills, straight to the point, indie rock. Lead singles, Monarch and How To Get Murdered In A Made [...]
Metal. It's one of music's most maligned and misunderstood genres, a culture that exists perpetually outside the mainstream and for the most part is perfectly happy doing so. Back when we were growing up in the '80s, metal meant big hair, devil horns, and intimidatingly fast guitar solos. Of course, it can still mean exactly that, but happily these days the genre's more diverse than ever. In particular, there's a breed of bands playing ominous, black metal-influenced music that's much more powerful than any of yer super-fast thrash noodlings. With the new Baroness album out this week, we thought we'd [...]

The ten-track repackaged version will be re-released on Feist’s own label, aptly titled Feist Music. You can check out the tracklist below, after the title track. Tracklist: 01. Feist has announced that she will reissue her 1999 debut Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down) - that's right, there was an album before Let It Die - through her own imprint, Feist Music. According to Exclaim! , the 10-track effort was originally release on CD by Bobby Dazzler Records, but has since gone out of print. The reissue will be available on "special limited edition vinyl" and is available for purchase through Feist's online store . Below, listen to a younger Feist warble her way through a bed of lush strings on the title track. [...]

By Nick Levine ( @nicklevine ) When planning the itinerary for last weekend’s festival of music and culture, it is surprising that despite being a resident of Camden, I have not heard of a number of participating venues taking place at the Crawl. The journey on Saturday starts late in the afternoon at the Electric Ballroom to see Denmark’s The Rumour Said Fire . Playing to a sparse but gradually filling up room, the band zip through songs from their debut album The Arrogant . Vocalist Søren Lilholt [...]
Back in late March, the Brooklyn-based duo Manicanparty came out of left field and blew me away with their debut track "Rebels In The Night". Their follow up song, and second leak off of the upcoming Manicanparty EP, continues the trend of focusing on pristine vocals over melodic, spacey production. Pretty sure I could get used to this.
