Rating: 9.4/10 The words 'one' and 'gold' are very meaningful. For rulers, 'one' meant superiority and 'gold' meant power. For athletes, they speak of accomplishment. For musicians, 'one' can be either rising to the top or ... Dear Monogold, if I were a record label I would sign you... Just FYI. I have been listening to Monogold's new album off and on for about a month now... You can't deny the goodness of this 3 piece band hailing from New York. Soaring guitar driven riffs mixed with some sublime pop. Yummy! I can honestly say I enjoy the album from front to back and I am pretty sure you will agree. Here are a couple of my favs, enjoy! mp3: Feel Animal [...]

No reason to keep my new "Three for..." feature to Thursdays just for alliteration's sake, so here are three more bands I highly recommend: ------------------------------ -------------------------- Special Patrol - I don't know much about Australian indie rock group Special Patrol (second Aussie group in a row for this feature, by the way), but while I can't give you much background, the music fortunately speaks for itself. The band recently released a new album last month entitled The Stranger's Dozen , a set of ten tracks [...]
We Animals is the new EP from eclectic Brooklyn indie rockers Monogold. The trio have come forth with a collection of tracks that draws upon influences throughout the outer reaches of the trippy rock galaxy. Monogold seems to pull inspiration from a number of well known artists and styles. Kicking off with "Traps/Offerings" and its Mercury Rev-like ethereal sound, the EP quickly makes its way

We here at Citizen Dick HQ get a lot of music crossing our desks and filling our headphones and sometimes, despite our very best efforts, we just can't get to everything. Speaking for myself, one of the first things that tends to determine the importance that I assign to some new releases is whether it is a full-length effort or not. Call my biased, maybe even foolish, but I tend to hold the full-length efforts in higher regard, or at least give them fuller attention. Even I, however, know that doing so can occasionally be a stupid mistake, so periodically [...]
Sometimes when I'm sorting mail by ear, I feel like I'm an eager gold miner who showed up to California post-1849 only to find anything desirable every now and again. The elements themselves made sure to make the task, albeit thumbing through mail or panning for gold, full of frustration with the all-too-common appearance of fool's gold. Yet, sorting through all the filler and fool's gold for the rare pleasure of finding the real thing makes repetitive routine worth it. This time, however, there weren't any precious metals to be found.. only Monogold . [...]

It took a little bit of searching but I finally found a little bit of information on Monogold . Confusing at first because it appears that there are two different bands who share the same name... I was perusing the halls of emusic and came upon their new self titled album... This band hails from Belgium and they certainly captured my attention... Solid bass lines matched with whirling guitars, they mix a little funk with a little rock/pop on the side... They are very difficult to describe, but I fell in love with a couple [...]

If you're like me, you enjoy getting in the car to drive to or from work and putting the ipod on shuffle. Just letting the music take you where it's going to take you. Recently, when I do this, a band has me frequently picking my ipod up and saying, "Who is this?" It's Monogold. Then I press repeat. Monogold is a four piece band from New York that plays dramatic indie rock that is seldom heard. The band formed in 2002, when they all met at a NY college, first being called R.U.O.K.. [...]

I'm not sure why, but I'm not feeling the holiday spirit this year. Not yet anyway. Hence the Christmas- and winter songs this week. Because I don't want to be The Grinch! MP3: The Mystery Jets - "Flakes" MP3: The Pipettes - "A Winters Sky" MP3: Monogold - "Snow On [...]

Now that we are into December, things are rather slow on the concert front. Since I have almost completely gone away from doing any sort of writing on this site, I am going to use this down time as an excuse to start doing that again. How long this is going to last, is a great question. I have no idea, but I am going to start trying out a new editorial format and see where it takes us. Do any of you remember the 12 Bands feature from last year? It was one of the [...]

You're in luck! Not only is it Friday again, it's time for five great tracks for all of you to enjoy! MP3: Kylie Minogue - "Rippin' Up The Disco" MP3: Palpitation - "I'm Happy Now" MP3: The Bell - "I Am History" MP3: Glass Candy - "Candy Castle" [...]
