After Two Hours Traffic , the next band to be up was Monogrenade from Montreal. I finally got to see this band play live. Since Jean-Michel Pigeon used to play in Winter Gloves . They played a wonderful set despite not understanding what they sang in French. But the music was lovely, it was a mix of indie pop rock with some orchestral and experimental sound. Think of a mix of Malajube, Karkwa, Patrick Watson and Cinematic Orchestra. [...]

Jessica Eaton Though they should be - and probably are - at work on their next album, a follow-up to last year's The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night , Montreal's Besnard Lakes have put together a little something something that will not only slake their fans' appetite for some new outer space-scale rock, but give them an excuse to get out of the studio and back on the road for a spell. On September 20, they'll release You Lived In the City , a new 123 EP that [...]

Samantha Cardow With festivals come hard choices, and for this year's edition of Canadian Musicfest , getting underway with a handful of events tonight and in earnest as of tomorrow, I am choosing to eschew the club-hopping-ness that typically comes with these sorts of fest and largely plant myself in one place for each evening. Hard choice or lazy choice? A little of both. But just because I am staying put doesn't mean that I recommend others do the same. So by way of festival preview, here's a list of stuff that [...]

1. The stop-motion video is wicked 2. Experimental folk 3. You don't need to know french to enjoy this. Monogrenade - Ce Soir The build in this song starting at 1:38 is really powerful and gets me every time. Halfway through my first listen with headphones on, I exclaimed "Holy Shit!" forgetting that people could actually hear me, it's that good. Montreal's Monogrenade formed in 2009 and their debut LP was released March 1st via Bonsound . If you go to their website you can also [...]
Your Monday song will make things a-okay. It's by Montreal's Monogrenade and it makes me wanna go on a road trip. Monogrenade - Ce Soir

photo of Pick A Piper December, January and February. Three months where I can reflect on music I missed out on during the past year. Can't wait. In doing some 2009 research, here are five Canadian bands that I have discovered in the past few months that I am going to keep an eye out for in 2010. Enjoy: Pick A Piper - A collective of sound artists featuring Brad Weber of Caribou, Angus Fraser of Tenth of May, Dan Roberts ex-Winter Equinox and Clint Scrivener. If [...]
interesting video, and song, from montreal-based monogrenade : monogrenade - ce soir
Beautiful song, and beautiful video. The band is called Monogrenade , they're from Montreal and this is their first single.( Via ) Monogrenade - Ce Soir
Monogrenade have crafted an endearing little ditty in their song " Ce Soir ," and the video is a perfect match with its lovely, eerie stop motion filming. People-less clothing wanders around a darling damaged and abandoned house. Watch the wallpaper peel and let the dust settle, and then add this creepy groovy song to your playlist!

I went to see a film called 35 Rhums last night and the music was fantastic, a mix of gallic whimsy, bassoon, strings and melancholia. Spot on lonesome. Especially when accompanying shots of people looking a bit glum on trains, and we all know how I feel about that . So - to coin a phrase - imagine my surprise when the titles popped up and it turned out that the soundtrack was by Tindersticks. Perfect, somehow. Sadly, there don't seem to be any plans to release it, but you can hear the [...]

??? Monogrenade - Ce soir Monogrenade are one of those bands that sings in French and makes no apologies for being totally incomprehensible. Even their MySpace page is fully Frenched out, even though they are from bilingual Canada (Montreal). I can only guess that "EP maintenant disponible sur Itunes !!!" means that their EP is out on iTunes. I do know that "Ce Soir" means "tonight" and that is pretty damn fitting as this track is the perfect vibe to tuck you in at night. It even has a beat [...]
"Ce Soir" is the debut video from Montreal's quartet Monogrenade. Extracted from La saveur des fruits EP which was recently released via Paper Bag. Directed by Christophe Collette,... **Summary** Go to website for downloads, videos & more.

This Montreal quartet has just released their debut EP - La saveur des fruits - and hot damn, Ce Soir is the type of song that stops you in your tracks, makes you lunge for the back button and start scouring the net for the ole back catalog. Luckily, the rest of the EP (while not as infectious) offers up well constructed, dark, subtle electronics and surprising depth. If La saveur des fruits is the first kick at the can for Monogrenade , the full-length should be something to behold. Here [...]
From director, Christophe Collette comes the music video for Montreal band, Monogrenade 's first video and undoubtedly one of the finest looking videos of the year. From the opening shot of an abandoned house in a foggy swamp, it's filled with beautiful, haunting imagery. The location is a house seemingly inhabited by ghosts and effects of a chair twirling in the middle of a room, wallpaper falling off walls, and clothes (without a body) floating around the house and dancing are all done with stop-motion. The animation effects are great, not gimmicky or overdone but [...]
