Next Tuesday Wait Think Fast , The Monolators , and Death To Anders will [...]
Remember a few days ago when I said I'd post this week? Well, you're soaking in it! I figured the best way to mark my return was with a giant list determined, as is often my wont, by shuffling the 12,000+ covers on my hard drive and picking the first 20 that came up. Dream Girls "I Can Fly" (Rainey cover, comp. Grady/ Holding/ Pain/ Riley) What better way to begin than with a cover of a song originally featured in the classic film Girls Just Want to [...]
This is it. The last First Friday of the year and the last show we're helping with of '07. It's the holiday season and there's nothing like spending some time with friends and listening to great bands at T's. And, as always with T's shows in December, if you see someone running around with a mistletoe on their belt buckle please don't call the cops. We need Arlo to do sound. December 7, 2007
photo by Kevin Bronson [MP3] The Monolators - We Fell Dead Last Tuesday The Monolators celebrated the release of their new EP - You Look Good On The Train, with a fantabulous show at The Echo. For the big finale the band decided to make the usual double bass on their closing song "We Fell Dead" into a triple threat. Not 1, Not Two, But THREE bassists - including yours truly. [MP3] The Monolators - Eagle Fighting Zebra A few people know already know this, but to those who don't I'll let the gator out of the pen. I play the bass . Back in the day I played for crappy emo-tastic bands and tried to sing like Gwen Stefani meets Hatebreed. Thank god we never recorded anything. That brings me to my second announcement - I will be playing a few upcoming shows with The Monolators as their substitute [...]
The Monolators are celebrating the release of their new 10" EP You Look Good on the Train with some friends Mezzanine Owls, Amateurs, and Summer Darling at the Echo on September 25th. The EP is fantastic, the lineup is amazing, and we heard there will be speed dating sessions in the back patio so that pretty much seals the deal. Print out the flyer above (designed by the awesome Eli and Mary

Sunday, June 24th: The Parson Red Heads @ Detroit Bar The Parson Red Heads seem to be playing somewhere in LA every week, but this week they've decided head south. Also at The Prospector in Long Beach on Tuesday. w/Brothers & Sisters, My Pet Saddle! The Parson Red Heads - Days Of My Youth ( mp3 ) Monday, June 25th: Casket Salesmen @ Rhythm Lounge I kept confusing the name of this band with the midwest's Casket Lottery, but [...]
[MP3] The Monolators - Strawberry Roan I first heard of Eli and Mary Chartkoff aka The Monolators through la-underground . He has been singing their praises for a while now. I listened to their music and always thought it was kitschy and a lot of fun, but somewhere between my brain and my fingers a post about them was lost. It wasn't until I met them in person and saw them live with my own eyes that I understood what makes The [...]
For the third installment of The Monolators' Video Premiere Extravaganza they've gathered an elite collection of Los Angeles' best underground bands. Any casual reader of this silly blog knows the extent of our love for 8-bit, Castledoor, and Summer Darling. So seeing them all in one night premiering new music and new music videos should be a feast for our senses. The Monolators debut the new

Photo by David Greenwald The Monolators are a Los Angeles-based duo that plays lo-fi garage pastiche-rock. Sometimes they're an indie-pop band, as on "I Was a Captain in the Army," but sometimes they play fake metal songs. Sometimes they get a bit ahead of themselves, literally -- the drums on "Captain" go a little too fast, making the band race to catch up. It's endearing; the song being catchy and likeable doesn't hurt, either. L.A. kids: the band is playing tonight at the Echo at 8 p.m. [...]
'Tis the season for our last hurrah of 2006 with bands we saw more times this year than what is legally permitted. Even more so, these bands have been good friends this past year and that, along with egg nog and mistletoes, are what this time of year is all about. To get into the spirit of the season, we hear the bands might break out a holiday tune or two and for our part we'll try to pull
After a bit of a hiatus from doing shows we're getting back into the thick of things with one we can hardly believe is actually happening. Getting any one of these bands on a night would have been a gift, but the fact they've all been gathered together for a single evening is an absolute coup. Johnnie Cocaine has asked us to get in the spirit of Halloween with a costume contest. First prize is
K presents "KeMo Thera-P" for the first time. And we can hardly wait to see The Monolators vid for "We Fell Dead". Videos will be followed with performances. Performances will be followed with drunkenness. Drunkenness will be followed by makeout sessions, which we will then videotape for next year's video release show. So, here's the deal: October 20, 2006 8-BIT THE MORMONS K THE MONOLATORS The
