Busy is not the word at the minute, but never too busy for a new Holograms track. "Flesh and Bone" is the first glimpse of what we're soon to hear on, Forever , the follow up to their self-titled debut . continue reading >>

It's always a huge risk releasing a 52 minute single song album but funeral doom/post metal maestros Monolithe from France are clearly not afraid of taking chances. This being their third full-length album I had never heard of them before, so I can't disclose on their development album to album. I can say though that Monolithe III is fucking awesome! III is the third chapter in Monolithe's story of mankind and by crosspollinating funeral doom and post metal while performed excellently, the band takes me through a fantastic musical story. As I mentioned earlier III consists of [...]
Daaaaaaamn. Monolith, why you gotta do this track so damn dirty? Monolith repping NYC drops this heater remix of the goddess Aaliyah’s hit “Are You That Somebody?” Amazing dubstep/edm remix full of insane drums, synth and intensity. Dig it. Are You That Somebody - Aaliyah - Monolith Remix

I don’t know how to write about music. I don’t know what time signatures are, what it means for a song to change time signatures, or if I like it when songs change time signatures. I don’t know what dubstep is or if it’s prohibitively uncool to like songs that experts call twee. I don’t know what distinguishes music that is brilliant because it is inaccessible from music that sucks because it is inaccessible. I don’t even know why I like the songs I like. Lacking insight into the real reasons for [...]
Above is a muddied amalgam of the artwork to each of our freshly completed Tracks of 2012 rundown , dubiously fangled on a newly acquired and equally dodgy copy of Photoshop, and below is our ongoing attempt to grapple with the finer intricacies of musical technologies. It's the first, and could well be the last Spotify playlist I ever so painstakingly compile, and it features our every entry (or rather the 28 that, at the time of writing, were hooked up to their mainframe, or whatever the correct technical term would be for that). That our topspot is in [...]
'Well to paraphrase The Beatles, it only takes 730 holes to fill the Village Underground, and we did it.' That was the message emanating out from the startlingly accommodating backstage realms of the Shoreditch haunt last Saturday sometime gone eleven: a statement of triumph in adversity, and of aspirations of grandeur simultaneously. MONO , the understated though musically overblown troupe from Tokyo came, saw, conquered and astounded to leave all dumbstruck and indeed dumb. After the most intense ninety of live music thus far this year, words failed us. All of us. Thus to render [...]

And now, the end is nigh. We tug away a little more at Sinatra's bloody red curtain, and unveil the penultimate ten in our Tracks of 2012 series. Saying it clear and stating that case of which we're certain, in our combined mind few MP3s and other assorted ones bettered the below, which this time encompasses entries born Under the Westway, drifted in from Japan, spawned in New York, and oozed Raclette-like out of Switzerland. The Avalanches also finally found it in themselves to return – and did so with a disconcertingly calm Silver Jew in the trim shape [...]

We're pretty much fans of anything Crystal Fighters . It seems like whenever their name is attached what comes out is a perfect blend of indie, electronic, and world music, which is definitely an ideal combo. Their sound lends particularly well to being remixed, and this new one of Follow from NYC's up-and-coming producer Monolith is a prime example. It has a fair amount of gruff over the fast-paced, club vibe of the original, hitting hard and heavy with the electro. This works out to be a perfect match, utilizing Crystal Fighters chanting vocals and [...]
Photography: Luke Byrne Nothing can beat the originals but these make damn fine alternatives. (Minus "Daybreak" as it's technically an original.) Holograms ’ self-titled album on Captured Tracks is one of the strongest debuts we’ve heard all year. Here’s their Pau Suris and Pau Dalmases-directed video for the pop-punk blast “Fever”, although I’m more of a “ Monolith ” kind of guy.
Last week, we gushed about how much we love Monolith, the new album from British thrash outfit Sylosis; we praised the album for harkening back to classic thrash influences while maintaining a modern sound, for its expert songwriting, and for its tight musicianship... basically, everything you want from a metal album, right? Well, great news! [...]
