more photos here I was up in the Bay Area over the weekend and was able to see Monotonix at The Stork Club in Oakland on the random off chance that our paths crossed. This was my third time seeing the band and first time with a packed room that was going completely ape shit for them (1st time was sxsw last year - full room, typical industry vibe, 2nd time was at The Smell last fall which was slightly under attended). Monotonix play Los [...]

Monotonix from Tel Aviv, Israel, who I saw earlier this year in Austin at SXSW came through Los Angeles last night for a balls to the wall ripping set at The Smell. With a lead singer who has the [...]
Word of their so-called "unbelievable" and "insane" live shows have made their way around the web for the last few years. And since we're all about such incredible insanity we made sure to check out a recent stop by Israel's own Monotonix at The Smell. Musically, they're probably too heavy for indie rock and too light for metal, but somewhere in between there lies a rather fiery Sabbath-Spoon
I bought my Silver Jews ticket approximately three minutes after it went on sale. After twelve years and five albums, this was the band's first-ever tour, a momentous and unexpected event I wasn't about to miss. Even beyond their terrific music, I've always felt a special connection to the Jews. They got started at the University of Virginia, where I went to college, and while ninety percent of my campus embraced the Dave Matthews Band as Charlottesville's best homegrown act, I knew better. The only David that mattered was Berman. When the night of the show finally arrived, [...]
