Being at Red Rocks for the first time, I was constantly taken aback by the atmosphere at this place, it's one of the most beautiful venues I have been, or even just places I have visited in general. And here I was thinking Coachella was the best music festival around.. .Monolith, a completely different animal, is just as good for different reasons: 1. This is as intimate of a festival that I have been to, there is an outdoor area and a small indoor area with 3 stages, so it's like going to see a band at [...]

We finished our Monolith recap ( Yeah Yeah Yeahs , Of Montreal , Girl Talk , Doom , M. Ward , The Walkmen , The Pains of Being Pure at Heart , Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros , Thao w/ The Get Down Stay Down , The Antlers ) of Saturday last week, now onto Sunday. We decided it would be best to sleep in for a little and watch opening NFL weekend, then head to the festival. Our first band was the Israeli trio, Monotonix. Richard has [...]

The third annual Monolith Festival took over scenic Red Rocks in Colorado last weekend, with one of the most pleasantly-varied assortment of music yet, and I found much to entertain my ears. Perhaps I was more motivated this year than last, but despite the rain Saturday and drizzles on Sunday, I constantly found myself making tough choices between acts slotted simultaneously that I wanted to see. It's good to have more than enough choices at a festival, running back and forth to catch the next buzzed-about act - and I certainly did at Monolith [...]

Wait a second...is that...sun? Yes, the second day of Monolith saw some sun. Though I must stress "some." Granted "some" was a significant improvement to the cold, icy rain that drizzled on concertgoers the entire day before. Feeling encouraged by the slight appearance of sun, Monolith's second day promised to be good. We Were Promised Jetpacks // Woxy.com Stage @ 1:40-2:20 p.m. I started off with Scottish group We Were Promised Jetpacks. I couldn't decide what [...]

Just got back from a nice long vacation, Outer Banks, Denver, and Portland Oregon. Whilst in Denver I went to the Monolith Festival. I'll have a full review coming in the next day or so, but I just wanted to post this pic and short video of the crazy show that Monotonix put on. Related: No Related Post
Israel's Monotonix are known and respected and perhaps even secretly coveted here in L.A. because of their world-wrecking live set and super-charged rock 'n' roll. Singer Ami Shalev speaks now while presumably fully clothed. This interview by Rena Kosnett.

This Saturday at Neumos is a rare triple bill worth camping out early for and sticking around late. The night opens up with B-Ham's horror punk favorites, Black Eyes and Neck Ties. Donning shreaded clothes, loads of eye makeup and the obligiory skinny black ties, the music that comes forth is epic, heavy and drips from the guitars like the fake blood from their skin. The down side of this is that Sat night will be the last time BENT plays Seattle . They have sadly confirmed that their 7 year stint is coming to an end so jump [...]

Black Eyes & Neckties ::: photo by Abbey Simmons Alright favorite bands, this is getting a little ridiculous. Still nursing the wounds from the final Ironclads show, I've just gotten confirmation that our favorite epic horror punk band Black Eyes and Neckties will soon also be no more. The Bellingham outfit's final Seattle show will be [...]
Bat-shit crazy has always been my go-to description for Tel Aviv rock trio Monotonix . I've seen the band lay waste to three different venues, I've seen cymbals lit on fire, the drummer hoisted by crowds atop his kick drum, and I've witnessed vocalist Ami Shalev use audience members as tackle-dummies, scale a 12-foot wall and turn a trash can into a pogo stick ... does that qualify as bat-shit crazy? Monotonix on wax will never top Monotonix on stage. But there's something beyond the excessive bombast (excessive being just a notch or two below [...]

Hey guys...it's Friday yet again. This week has yet another ton of stuff to listen to and watch. I'm going to keep it short because I'm in the middle of a water pistol battle that involves shaving cream, doughnuts, cupcakes, and department heads. If you work in an office, you might be able to appreciate that! Coming next week we here at POP! Stereo have two contests in the works. You can win yourself a copy of the amazing new book about Merge Records Our Noise as well as a Merge XX [...]

hopesandoval.com It's been over a month since word came that the reclusive Hope Sandoval was returning to active duty - she had not only completed a new Warm Intentions album with My Bloody Valentine's Colm O Cíosoig, but was also putting finishing touches on a new record from Mazzy Star . Now there's been no further word on what would be her and David Roback's first album since 1996, but the new Warm Inventions album Through The Devil Softly is definitely happening, albeit with [...]
