What the fuck is pop music, anyway? I mean, I know it's short for popular music, and I know in terms of marketing it's usually geared towards a younger audience, but how do you distinguish pop from rock? What's pop-rock, what's pop and what's rock? What about pop punk or psychedelic pop? It's fucking confusing, I tell you. So this week I've asked some friends and associates to suggest to me what they would consider to be the best pop song most casual music fans have never heard. It sounded like an easy enough question, but I ended up with [...]

Believe it or not, there was a time in my life when everything just felt right. It was a time of great happiness, perhaps unparalleled in my personal history. At moments of great distress I like to close my eyes and reflect on those joyous nights. If I focus hard enough, I can recall the taste of bakery-fresh, multi-colored sprinkles cookies and Pepsi, the smell of Glade vanilla-scented candles, and the chills that ran down my spine as I rounded dimly-lit corners or proceeded through teleporters. I speak, of course, about the countless nights my friend Matt and I spent [...]

My fellow readers. It is time again for our annual State Of The Blog Address. On March 10th of this year, Swan Fungus (nee Communications Major / English Minor) turned three years old. It has been a perilous thirty-six months filled with a seemingly endless number of roadblocks, but here we are, still going strong with no end in sight. During year number one, this blog averaged 175 visitors per day. One the day of its second birthday, this blog averaged 233 visitors per day. Last month, an average of 625 people saw this page daily. I'd say [...]

Our dating correspondent returns from his self-imposed exile to document what would be a close call in the dog-eat-dog world of break-ups, fuck-ups, rich boys, and premature engagements. Emily had a lean sensuality to her and a pretty face that had only recently caught my eye. She was a ballet dancer in high school and she played the part well: 5283, nice posture, great arches in both feet. Emily was a practicing Buddhist, a tradition bestowed upon her by her healthfoody mother, but the observance of which seemed little [...]
What a long, long day. Tonight I am in Tucson, and tomorrow I'll be in LA. There weren't many stops to make today, as I wanted to drive as far as I could without stopping. I didn't get any free breakfast this morning from the hotel, so I was forced to spend $2.89 for a Sonic breakfast burrito combo meal. It was the first time I ever had Sonic, and will probably be the last time. Everything was going good until I got to the last few bites of the burrito, and it began leaking what was either melted butter [...]

4. The Dark Night , Christopher Nolan At first I thought I hated Batman Begins because I had read too many spoilers-the script was floating around the interweb for months before the film's release. But now I release I just thought it was fucking stupid. The next one seems like it holds more promise: I told this person how I didn't particularly dig the suit in Batman Begins and said it was too bulky. To this he/she replied, "Well then you'll love the new one." He/she also stated that [...]
I'm sure you're all being slaves to the television and watching Academy Awards-related programming, but I have chosen to compile for you a new Mix Tape. Tomorrow you will be blessed with Episode 5 of The Best Podcast You Have , Circulations Amethyst. The title is "Vibrophile". I thought "Heroin Cheek" would've been funnier. Normally I don't pay any attention whatsoever to the names of these Mix Tapes. You could download them and conjure your own titles, for all I care. This week I received a nice comment from Tim in Cairo, Egypt, and after a couple [...]
