Of all the recent "supergroups" to have formed in recent months, Monsters of Folk is easily the biggest... and as we learned today, most likely to live up to the hype. On September 22nd, Conor Oberst, M. Ward, Jim "Yim" James "Yames", and Mike Mogis will finally put their five-year collaboration to record when they unveil Monsters of Folk . Today, the group gave its first official taste of what is to come with the release of a song entitled "Say Please". As you'll hear, Oberst and Ward handle most of [...]

It has finally been confirmed that the one time tour mates that called themselves the "Monsters of Folk" have recorded an album. This indie-rock supergroup is made up of M. Ward, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Conor Oberst, and Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes producer). Talk of this album has been floating around the blogosphere ever since they first went on tour together in '04. It is great to finally receive news that this record is actually complete. The self-titled debut is set to be released 9/22 via Shangri-La. According to the press release, these four guys will be playing all [...]

As a lead-up to the long-awaited self-titled album release (Sept. 22nd) from Monsters of Folk , Jim James's supergroup that also features Conor Oberst, M. Ward, and Mike Mogis, his new alter-ego Yim Yames will release a six song tribute to George Harrison. The album will feature two Harrison-penned Beatles tracks and four solo works. Apparently "Yim" recorded the album a few days after Harrison died in 2001. A portion of the album's proceeds will benefit Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary [...]
Expecting to see My Morning Jacket sometime soon? Don't count on it. After spending the last year releasing Evil Urges and then touring the globe in support of it, the Louisville rockers have reportedly decided to take a break. Drummer Patrick Hallahan shared the obvious with Spinner.com backstage at Bonnaroo earlier this month: "Right now, honestly, we've just taken a big hiatus," Hallahan notes. "We've been touring for eight years straight. We all have other things going on right now." We say obvious because it's not like the [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive My Morning Jacket has a history of performing career-defining shows at Bonnaroo, but they weren't on this year's lineup. That didn't stop drummer Patrick Hallahan from going anyway, as a fan. It's not that My Morning Jacket decided to just skip Bonnaroo - they're not playing anywhere, any time soon. "Right now, honestly, we've just taken a big hiatus," Hallahan admitted to Spinner while enjoying a beer backstage. "We've been touring for eight years straight. We all have other things going on right now." [...]

Back in 2004, the formidable trio of Conor Oberst, Jim James and M. Ward teamed up for a tour they dubbed Monsters Of Folk . Each artist delivered a solo set, where they often interpreted each others material, that often culminated with all three on stage at the end for some spirited covers and a mixed bag of the artists' tunes. Earlier this year news surfaced that trio had plans to collaborate and record an album together. Well, the band's debut effort now has a release date and will hit store shelves on September 22. [...]
When I think of a supergroup entitled Monsters of Folk , I can't help but picture a skinny white guy strapped into an acoustic guitar yelling to an arena full of beatniks, "For those about to folk, we saluuuuute you!" Well, I got the skinny-white-guy part right. For in the vein of Velvet Revolver and Tinted Windows, Monsters of Folk - which will be releasing a self-titled album September 22 - consists of Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis, My Morning Jacket's Jim James and M. Ward's (also She & Him's) M. Ward. So, [...]

Cool project imagining some classic album covers as old Penguin Books Before I get to the links: the election, protests and killings in Iran are the biggest stories in the world right now, and while you all have your preferred methods of getting news, I urge you to follow the #IranElection hashtag on Twitter for up to date information. Also, Salon had a good breakdown on why we shouldn't (and should) trust the elections results . It goes without saying [...]

Back in 2004, indie folk/rock troubadours M. Ward, Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes, and Jim James of My Morning Jacket caught lightning in a bottle when they shared a stage for the aptly-dubbed "Monsters of Folk" tour. The tour led to a series of collaborations. James, with his unworldly falsetto, provided backup vocals for Ward on Transistor Radio 's "Fuel For Fire" and Post-War 's "Magic Trick" and on Oberst's "At The Bottom of Everything"—the pinnacle of the Bright Eyes masterpiece I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning . Ward and Oberst then sung together on the Traveling Wilbury's cover "Handle With Care" orchestrated [...]
So because I REALLY don't want to be at work today, I am procrastinating and writing up a little note for y'all. Moving sucks. Just going to throw that out there. But there is some pretty sweet music that's about to drop, has dropped, and has been getting buzz lately that has been keeping my spirits up as I try to unpack and reorganize my life. But before I start on that, I just want to let you know that I've caught the Twitter bug. Follow me on there and you'll get random musings and notices about new posts. [...]

Ya tenía bastante tiempo el rumor de que algunos de los máximos representantes norteamericanos del folk independiente actual: Conor Oberst, M.
