Frank Yang As of Monday night, it had been four and a half years since I saw Spoon live and just over four years since I'd been to The Sound Academy (nee The Docks) for a show. One of these streaks I was anxious to break; the other I was not. To be fair, I only missed one of their Toronto shows - a 2008 appearance at the Kool Haus in support of Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga - but apparently that was the one where they officially [...]
Monsters of Folk have premiered the official music video for " Dear God ". The video is for the second single off the band's debut self-titled album released last year. The video was directed by Lauri Faggioni . Watch below.

Jim James, Connor Oberst, M. Ward and the other guy, a/k/a Monster of Folk, have a new video out for one of my favorite tracks from their self-titled debut album (via Stereogum ). I've heard rumors that they may go round two with the super group and make another album. That will be down the road though, so don't hold your breath. In the meantime, enjoy this video. Also, get ready for a special edition reissue of the MOF album set for release on Record Store Day (April 17th). Think 2xLP blue vinyl! [...]

The indie-folk/rock supergroup that is Monsters Of Folk (Jim James, M. Ward, Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis) are back with a new video for their song "Dear God" that is sure to "folk" with your head....yeah I didn't like that joke either. The song comes from the group's self-titled debut LP which you should have already bought by now. The video takes us on a journey through the universe which is actually a trip through a human being which is actually a trip through the universe. You get all that? The members of [...]
Despite that new She & Him album , a forthcoming My Morning Jacket tour , and rumors of a Bright Eyes reincarnation , the collaborative quartet that is the Monsters of Folk (M. Ward + Jim James + Conor Oberst + Mike Mogis) have still managed to find time to shell out one more music video. Some six months after the release of its eponymous debut , the band has returned with a colorful new video for "Dear God". The video, presented in a kaleidoscope style view, does not feature any of [...]

Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, M. Ward, and Jim James may be busy attending to their other projects this spring/summer ( Bright Eyes , She and Him , and My Morning Jacket , respectively), but the Monsters of Folk aren't done spreading the word about their eponymous debut LP just yet. In addition to a contest-winning music video to their soulful single, "Dear God," the trio have uploaded a new semi-animated video by Lauri Faggioni , who has directed similarly styled work for the likes of Devendra Banhart, Iron & Wine, and Bright Eyes [...]

I was hoping that good weather was finally making its way to NYC. Turns out, I was wrong. I kid you not, the wind is howling from my window right now. The rain hasn't showed any signs of weakening as well. Getting home last night was actually a real drag. A 3 block walk seemed like forever. White Hinterland is a Portland, Oregon-duo composed of Casey Dienel and Shawn Creeden. This is the first track of theirs I've come across. They're releasing their third album, Kairos some time this year. Icarus is the first single from [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive My Morning Jacket drummer Patrick Hallahan doesn't think he could make it through one of his band's shows as a fan. MMJ, after all, has garnered a reputation for long shows -- including a 4-hour marathon at Bonnaroo in 2008 -- and as a concertgoer, that's just too long for him. "I can't understand how people can stick around for a long show like that," he says. "I don't really have the [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , UK She and Him, the collaboration between Hollywood actor Zooey Deschanel (pictured) and musician M. Ward , have revealed their first headline dates outside North America. They are set to embark on a European tour that kicks off in Madrid on Apr. 26 and finishes with two UK shows -- London's Koko on May 7 and the following day a performance at the All Tomorrow's Parties weekender curated by 'The Simpsons' creator Matt Groening. For this tour, [...]

Filed under: New Music In the three years since 'Cassadaga,' Bright Eyes fans have been anxiously waiting for new music from Conor Oberst 's nom de rock. And if four new songs isn't exactly an album, the news that the beloved group will append as many tracks to the new reissue of 'One Jug of Wine, Two Vessels' -- its 2004 split with Neva Dinova -- is certainly welcome among indie rock's hoi polloi. Due March 23, new tracks slated for the rerelease include 'Rollerskating,' 'Happy Accident,' [...]
Seemingly, Conor Oberst has the Midas touch. Whether as the frontman of Bright Eyes , drummer for Park. Ave., leader of the Mystic Valley Band, or member of the supergroup Monsters of Folk , the man writes and records amazing music. With the Bright Eye's moniker possibly on the way out , the group are now recording tracks which may mark the end of a 15 year collaboration. Currently, according to Twentyfourbit , Bright Eyes and fellow Nebraskan, Neva Dinova, are finishing up the reissue of their 2004 release One [...]

Are supergroups a recent phenomenon? I feel like we have so many going on right now! Volcano Choir, Discovery, Broken Social Scene, She & Him (sort of?), Blakroc ….Wu-Tang Clan! Monsters of Folk is an indie/folk supergroup consisting of Conor Oberst (of Bright Eyes ), Mike Mogis (of Bright Eyes and Lullaby for the Working Class ), Jim James (of My Morning Jacket ) and M. Ward (of She & Him as well as a successful solo musician). Oberst, Ward and James [...]

A friend emailed me this Monsters of Folk track, and I had never heard of them prior. According to allmusic , they "were formed around the talents of indie rock giants Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes) , M. Ward (She & Him) , and Jim James (My Morning Jacket) ". Outrageous, Monsters of Folk indeed, how cheeky. Though I'm not the biggest fan of some of these guys out of this context, this song is rocking my world, as it's hardly folk and leans [...]
