Montpelier - 'China Shop' Brisbane's Montpelier have been busy in the studio recording their upcoming debut album, due for a 2012 release. The latesy taster from the album is 'China Shop'; a beautiful folky pop track, while 'Last Boat' was released in February – see the video here! Download 'China Shop' from Bandcamp. Filed under: [...]
Way back in February, we featured the Montpelier song and video for "Last Boat" on our TWJ Super Bowl Mix. The boys from Brisbane, Australia are back with another folksy tale about the perils of young love. Seems to me the song deals with that tricky balance of letting the sparks of an old relationship [...]

Just a quick one from me today. I arrived in the lovely Paris and managed to catch up on the rather large backlog of submissions we have not managed to read over the last few days in the train journey over. Montpelier - China Shop Just to continue the loose french connections of this post I present to you Montpellier. I also present them to you because they are rather good. China Shop leaps in various direction throughout. Ranging from processional drums to church choir harmonies to shimerring [...]

Brisbane 4-piece Montpelier are prepping for the release of their debut album in early 2012. To get their name out and fans excited they'll be heading out on tour supporting the new single and playing tracks from the new album I'm sure. The group already has one self-titled EP to their name, which you can stream below and so far we've been treated to 2 tracks from the forth coming album. Both tracks are piano indie-pop gold that are in the vein of Keane and Something Corporate . Montpelier - [...]
By Aaron Dubanevich I am not a writer. I'm descended from a writer, but it's not something I aspire to. I'm writing this out of desperation, hoping that putting it on paper will make it easier to put it away. There will be times when I skip details, or I don't remember exactly what someone said or precise sequences of events, but that doesn't matter. The important parts are already in the historical record. I guess you could call this a confession, though I'm not sure what I'm confessing. No philosophical preamble, no foreshadowing. I'll just start where it started: [...]
Montpelier have recently released the lovely Peter Gabriel-like single Last Boat, which is about vocalist Greg Chiapello's coming to terms with living with OCD as a teenager. The guys have a lot more planned for the year though and I have interviewed Greg to get the scoop-y juice. Also, clicks for the coffee mention! I couldn't go a day without it! A Has Been: Do you think Montpelier's sound has evolved much since your early days? Greg Chiapello: I think it has definitely matured and developed. We had [...]
It is sometimes astonishing how much good music is floating around out there. We can't possibly get to all of it, though we'd love to tell all of you about every cool band we ever heard. It's sort of the same idea with an event like the Super Bowl. Sure, only two teams end up [...]

Montpelier , a band from Brisbane, Australia, have found a way to write rather upbeat pop songs about serious matters. Their latest single Last Boat is about coping with OCD . Singer Greg Chiapello was diagnosed as such as a teenager. Smart indie-op guitar, straightforward keys and a hook-filled chorus that should scare his inner demons. The track serves as the forerunner for a new EP that will be released in April. Last Boat can be downloaded for free from the band's website. [...]

This edition: What you can do to help victims of the Queensland floods; Montpelier's powerful and poignant, Last Boat ; Portlandia is too funny; and this week's hot videos. The Queensland Floods The devastating floods in Queensland, Australia have left more than a dozen people dead, and scores are still reported missing. This news hit me particularly hard as I've come to know many Queenslanders through my work. For the last few summers, I've taken a group of students to this [...]

Right. There are so many good songs, plus good deeds, going on that I feel Monday Music just won't be able to cope. So in a unique, one-off, worryingly energetic coo, here's a Sunday version of tomorrow's weekly post... Dean & Ravo - Walkin' Around ( mp3 ) Perfect for a Sunday with its cheery, 80s-style rap beat, this 'hip-pop' reminds me of chats at university with one Liam Evans. He and I would set on the steps of the main Leeds building, the Parkinson, and spend hours discussing nothing but the [...]

From the inbox: ++Fans of the Silver Jews will appreciate the pace and off-kilter charm of this song by alt-country vet Howe Gelb (Giant Sand). Wryly philosophical + distant Carpenters interludes= purrfect. Giant Sand's Blurry Blue Mountain is out now with a tour planned for spring. Giant Sand: Fields of Green.mp3 ++ Last Boat is the new [...]

Fresh from their single launch at The Zoo last Saturday night, Brisbane's Montpelier have followed up their stand-out show by releasing the film clip for "Last Boat". The video utilises the meticulous paper stop motion technique to create a trippy hallucinogenic ride under the sea with a bearded character (and a squid). The clip has been insanely popular on whothehell.net .

The idea of a warehouse party for Brisbane's local music scene created massive hype amongst music lovers over the past couple of weeks. The vibe was whipped up and promoted through social media avenues, largely for the uniqueness of the venue, coupled with the BYO tag, awesome lineup and Fortitude Valley backdrop. Disco Entertainment & Romance in my pants took a gamble on what they thought was meant to be all systems go, having received the all clear from the authorities. Contingencies were in place for the safety of all with security guards roaming [...]

This Friday, in what is set to be one of the most insane parties of the year, renowned party-goers themselves DZ, will be joined by Comic Sans and Montpelier along with a host of DJ's. Held in a warehouse on a private property, the event is BYO. That's right... BYO. "6 DJ's, 3 Bands, 1 Party" Disco Entertainment & Romance in my pants presents THE ADVENTURES OF... this Friday the 9th of July. Essentially it's a BYO warehouse party featuring some of Brisbane's best [...]

Grand Atlantic To be honest, I'd heard little about Grand Atlantic. A quick look at their myspace revealed an accomplished band floating right under my very own nose, here in Brisbane. Having recently returned from a trip to the US and Canada to perform a host of notable gigs, including South by South West in Austin Texas, Grand Atlantic are now embarking on a hectic tri-state residency. Between Brisbane's Troubadour, Sydney's Landsdowne Hotel and Melbourne's Workers Club, the guys will clock up some serious mileage over the next month. [...]

Weekly Playlist 19 features Florence and the Machine, The xx, Harlem Shakes, Jonathan Boulet, Montpelier, Danimals and The Medics. Florence and the Machine - You've Got The Love (The XX Remix) It's the xx.. so of course this track makes it in. A bipolar take on Florence and the Machine's You've Got The Love which only the xx could pull off. Download the track here . Harlem [...]
