Download : Moon Duo - Trails (White Rainbow Remix) Remix of "Trails" by Portland, Orgeon's White Rainbow. When Moon Duo’s last full length, Mazes, was released in 2011 there was a limited edition bonus cd that came with it for retail featuring remixes of the album tracks by the likes of Gary War, Sonic Boom, Psychic Ills and others. The bonus disc was so well received that the band have done it again with their new album Circles. This time the remixes are from Portland/ Kranky [...]

I picked up a new toy a few hours before my show. My bike had been in the shop for a few days with a broken spoke and to get a new chain and cassette (the latter of which was a special order item), and I decided to try out a 2012 model Trek. Ended up using my old bike as a trade in and coming home with the new ride pictured above. With this kind of reckless spending, I needed a garage/psychedelic rock kind of night. Here's my playlist for [...]

Lovers of vinyl will go to bed tonight with visions of sugar-plums dancing in their heads, as Record Store Day – the high holiday for audiophiles around the world – returns tomorrow, and more than 25 Bay Area independent record shops are participating in the madness. This year's event (the seventh official RSD) features not only its usual array of special releases from high profile musicians, but a handful of local acts are jumping into the fray, dropping limited edition wax that will no doubt delight many scenesters from the Bay and beyond. [...]

To celebrate Record Store Day 2013, Portland band Moon Duo are releasing a collection of 12" of remixes from their 2012 album Circles . White Rainbow 's remix of 'Trails' has a concrete beat, which never dares let up for the whole seven minutes. This provides the track with a deep, weighty foundation for the weaving synths to pry and bassy tones to rebound off. As for the vocal, Ripley Johnson's silky tone hasn't been tailored too much - only a few reverberated echoes - leaving it still as blissful. Along with [...]

Moon Duo are in fact a duo from Portland Oregon by way of San Francisco. They have been touring Down Under this past month and as such they re getting their music out there from their latest LP, Circles released by enigmatic underground label Sacred Bones in 2012. Watch their video above featuring artist King Kahn!
The well of music video ideas is somewhat limited, and three decades after the advent of MTV, it's interesting to see the themes that have recurred again and again over the years. One of the more enduring conceits, curiously enough, has been the workout video, either rendered in parodic style or played completely straight. We're not entirely sure why this is — perhaps because, stereotypically, musicians aren't generally the ones who enjoy gym class, or perhaps the curiously sexualized imagery of the fitness video provides rich material for satire and also for commentary on our society. In any case, the [...]

We were asked by our friends over at BBC 6 Music to come up with a category for the upcoming Blog Awards, getting the production staff hot under the collar by proposing going with bands to soundtrack the royal birth or a Papal enclave we decided to go with "Who is most likely to form a cult?". We've got six nominations below, so please vote for who you think should win this prestigious award in the comments below or over on our Facebook poll . The Chapman Family - it's [...]

So this is what happens when Spectrum swallow a complete of bottles of Clinic. No violent reactions, no rash decisions, just a spinning top of a tune that'd wake even the sleepiest of bears from its winter slumber. And it was from such a territory that Moon Duo's second LP 'Circles' was created, with an outpost in the Rocky Mountains serving to illuminate their 19th century literature seeking inspiration. It's all so fuzzy and unclear yet still manages to throw a shadow that is the embodiment of sculpted definition. KD Moon Duo [...]

Here are a few last words on 2012. Local flavor I didn't hear enough local (Chicago) releases in 2012 to create a definitive best-of list for the year. (This is something I want to rectify in 2013.) But I did hear some really good albums, including those made by Radar Eyes, Disappears, Hollows (pictured above) and Wes Hollywood . Check these artists out. I also really liked soul / R&B revivalists The Right Now . Replicate - Disappears Guilty [...]
Last year, San Francisco space-rockers Moon Duo released a very good album called Circles . One of that album's songs was called "I Can See," and now they've recorded a version of that song in German, retitling it "Ich Werde Sehen." They've also made a video for that German version, in which an invisible man rides a bike around a city, getting into trouble and enraging animals, before figuring out the best thing to do with his situation. Watch it below. Read More...

Photo courtesy of Pamela Garcia-Aguirre Despite amounting to nothing less than a watershed year in my life, 2012 feels like it went by in the blink of an eye. Joining The Bay Bridged in May, I was tossed headlong into the Bay Area music scene, everyday making multiple new musical discoveries and adding countless bands to my list of acts to cover. Writing about everything from psych-rock, garage rock, and "cloud rap" to indie-folk, country-punk, and Afro-Caribbean-influenced indie rock, I found myself immersed in a community of unending musical productivity, experimentation, and collaboration, and [...]
