What: Using only an 8mm iPhone app, Nashville rockers Moon Taxi film a "LOST" kick drum that's alternately rolled down hillsides, balanced on rooftops, and often at its wayward owner's side. As Trevor Terndrup sings, it's sadly "in and out and lost in Mercury." Moon Taxi's latest album, Cabaret , is out now.

"In our crazy world, we're living in square circles" Matisyahu lends his vocals to a new track from Moon Taxi, an indie rock group out of Nashville, TN, giving it a nice reggae vibe. This brings me back to the King Without A Crown days (circa 2005), which was a pretty damn good time for [...]
Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: Moon Taxi Video: 'Gunflower' Highlight: "We spend a lot of time traveling all over the South and I think the area has ingrained some things in us that come out in our songs, both stylistically and emotionally," guitarist Spencer Thomson tells Spinner. "The theme of this song is pretty universal but it's seen through a nostalgic Southern filter. We love experimenting with unique instrumentation. The banjo and harmonica definitely add the Southern acoustic thing but [...]

Moon Taxi has premiered their new video for "Cabaret". Inspired by the projections on the walls of Bennie's Boom Boom Room, a club in Hattiesburg, MS that the band frequently plays, Moon Taxi used the array of stock footage to mix modern and vintage aesthetics. "Cabaret" is the title track off of Moon Taxi's forth coming album, due out on February 7th, 2012. Moon Taxi - Cabaret video: The Nashville band is currently on the road in the midst of their MPFree tour, [...]
As part of our celebration of all things Pink Floyd this week, we asked some of our favorite artists on the road if they had time to contribute a thought or two on what the band has meant to them over time. Trevor Terndrup from Moon Taxi happily obliged, commenting about his attraction to the music of Pink Floyd The thing that attracted me to the band was the element of lunacy. Syd Barrett went crazy, everybody knows that. But even after they continued making great [...]
Moon Taxi - Cabaret Go here to see the new video for "Cabaret" Four years after releasing their debut full-length album Melodica , Nashville jungle rockers Moon Taxi went back into the studio early this year and put together a drastically different, left-turn LP2 that should be out sometime early next year and is likely to turn some heads of both their fanbase and the uninitiated. For one, some of the drum tracks on here are prominent [...]

Dress Like Your Idols is the latest release from BOAT on the Magic Marker record label. It is also their first in a professional studio (the now-defunct Two Sticks Audio in Seattle). The awesome album art pays tribute to album covers of the 90s and beyond - D Crane -style. The band still plays the same raucous indie pop. It's just not as "sloppy" as it used to be. Listen. Downloadable: Forever in Armitron (mp3) You can purchase the CD or LP of Dress Like Your Idols [...]
Ke$ha announces Beastie Boys cover, Jack White & Wanda Jackson do the Late Show , new music from Blastoids, D. Watusi & JEFF the Brotherhood, and bunch of Nashville concert updates including news on Sharon Van Etten, Ted Leo, the Kills & Interpol.

Moon Taxi is every college town's wet dream. When I say that, a reader probably thinks immediately of Barenaked Ladies and Dave Matthews Band. (or at least, that's what I would think of) Sure, fans of those bands might fall into Moon Taxi's following, but Moon Taxi speaks to "the others" as well. The other listeners that like to make beereal with their granola. Although, there's a mainline jam sound, Moon Taxi's tunes are more structured and fuse in progressive classic rock. I feel like I labeled Muse [...]
This Spring will see the inaugural Hangout Music Festival bring an "eclectic lineup of 60-plus artists" to the Gulf Shores of Alabama. "We're shooting for the stars," found Shaul Zislin told Alabama Live upon announcing its creation in December. "We want the best that are available in the business to come here." Well, it took a little long than expected, but Mr. Zislin has returned to announce which of these stars will hanging out on from May 14-16. Among them include the now Grammy Award winning outfit the Zac Brown [...]

We're continuing this celebration of 2008 covers from the Archive. Here's part one. J is for Staple it together > whole lotta love-Jack Johnson (Led Zeppelin cover) I'm not a huge surfer music fan, but I think JJ is generous to provide his material, and his covers are cool, laid back funk. K is for Karma Police-Citizen Cope (Radiohead cover) . L is for Freebird (Lynyrd Skynyrd)-Hayes Carll . L is also for Lips Like [...]

Gettin' back into the swing can be a strenuous transition, but thankfully I've been rocking some groovy tunes lately to help transform a summer mindset into a "summer + some school" thought pattern. It's a hard gig although the greater gig to mention here are Moon Taxi , the progressive/psychedelic outfit from Nashville, TN. They were first introduced to me by a couple of friends when out at a local bar called the Fishtank and now they're first being introduced to you in the blogosphere with wide eyes. Make no mistake though, this band is [...]
