They're Swedish! They're pop! They're catchy! They're babies from the moon! What more can you ask for? Well, probably a couple of tracks to sample, so I'll put some of those down there for you. Oh, and a link to the Moonbabies website? Done. Oh yeah, and the album is titled At the Ballroom . And it's good. From At the Ballroom Moonbabies - Take Me To The Ballroom Moonbabies - [...]

This may sound like an advertisement and I guess in a way it is. I have been a member of eMusic now for at least a year and really love it. I get 90 downloads a month and use them up rather quickly. It is by far the best digital music download service out there and is totally DRM free. If you sign up for the service via the link below you will also be helping keep Mars Needs Guitars alive since I get a small kickback from those who subscribe [...]
Apologies to you logophiles, but today we must get straight to the music (which, happily, does contain words, as well). Eskimo - Arrow mp3- Thanks to Music of the Moment, which has two more by these Kiwis. More Grey's Anatomy love from Green Clothes, apparently (I swear I didn't know before I made this post--I don't even watch that show). Moonbabies is the project of Ola Frick and Carina Johansson, two Swedes that craft some catchy, lush shoegaze-informed pop music. They've had several releases over the past ...

Moonbabies ! At first, I thought it was an Asian synthpop band, but I was mistaken. They're Swedish (was there even a question these days?). There is very little synth. Their pop is refined, more brown sugar than powdered. Robust. Think Snow Patrol, The Flaming Lips, and Broken Social Scene all rolled up into one. It's shoegaze for the Grey's Anatomy crowd. We'll call it Moongaze. We'll lay on our backs on the roof on a clear spring night, count the constellations, and smile. Listen: War On Sound Take Me [...]

Malmö, Sweden Although I'm not sure that anything will ever compare to The Orange Billboard from Moonbabies , their latest effort is definitely worth your listen. At The Ballroom is available now through Parasol mail order. "Take Me To The Ballroom" Moonbabies on MySpace

Seriously, boy/girl harmonies and they're Swedes. It's a lock, I'm in. This is the Moonbabies third album and it may be the one to get them some serious Stateside pub. One of the songs has already been featured on Grey's Anatomy , but then again, it seems like everything has been used on that show by now. Anyway, it's still a good thing for the band and surely paid some bills. The Moonbabies are made up of Swedes Ola Frick and Carina Johansson [...]

I'm really liking the new Blonde Redhead album "23" which has a great consistent sound with their other stuff. They are actually playing tomorrow at the Glass House and I am guessing the tickets are long gone. They will also be performing at Coachella with a gazillion awesome bands! I will do a short Coachella entry next week for some of my favorite bands playing. Something totally strange: The hits on my site go up around 75-120 hits on average a day. Who the crap is looking [...]
"War On Sound"/"Don't Ya Know" …..It's a beautiful start. If you don't love Moonbabies within the first ten seconds of "War On Sound," then you probably won't like them at all. It's easy to be skeptical when songs are as instantly gratifying as this one, but after repeated listens, the song has remained on replay in my mental jukebox. "Don't Ya Know" has fared just as well, with its Postal Service style programming. The Swedish duo has managed to craft [...]

More Grey's Anatomy love from Green Clothes, apparently (I swear I didn't know before I made this post--I don't even watch that show). Moonbabies is the project of Ola Frick and Carina Johansson, two Swedes that craft some catchy, lush shoegaze-informed pop music. They've had several releases over the past years and have garnered plenty of praise, but their latest, Moonbabies at the Ballroom , seems to be their most well-received (well, if you disregard Metro's opinion that it's "Foo Fighters helt utan charm!"; that sounds super angst-y with the exclamation and all). It's a [...]
Dropping seemingly out of the sky, at first I thought At the Ballroom was a live album. But then I read the press release and, no, it was the long-awaited third Moonbabies album. It's been three years since their amazing...
God knows the OC doesn't have it all its own way. Grey's Anatomy is also pushing the indie bandwagon into sitting rooms that would otherwise have never experienced sounds from outside out of the top ten. Sweden's Carina Johansson and Ola Frick are probably beside themselves because the splendiferous chorus inside 'War On Sound' has had many a eye trained on their back catalogue. So much so that

Check out this band from Sweden. They are called Moonbabies and I can't help thinking they were somehow spawned by Barbarella and James Bond (ala 'Moonraker'). Moonbabies - Sun AM MORE TUNES AND A MUSIC VIDEO AT THEIR MYSPACE!

Just a few round-up type items that I found noteworthy. First off, Moonbabies has revealed the name of their upcoming album: Moonbabies At the Ballroom . Looks like they're aiming for a March release in Scandinavia, but no word on anything else. They're also getting ready to release the first single, which will be "War on Sound." I bet it won't be the same as the edit on their mini-album of the same name, mark my words. Moonbabies -- [...]

Some more good news in addition to yesterday's posting about Swedish label Labrador . The tracklist for the 4CD-Box can be downloaded here as a PDF-File. It really is a great compilation, and I think everyone who loves new Scandinavian pop-music should own this thing! Labrador is also offering four exclusive tracks from the sampler: Sambassadeur - Ice And [...]

Malmö, Sweden Toward the end of last year Moonbabies signed with Startracks . This means their 2001 June And Novas will get a re-release and so will 2004's The Orange Billboard (my favorite album of 2004), this time in a Digipak with bonus tracks! Carina and Ola also spent 2006 recording material for a brand new record, which will be out later this year. "In Our House" [...]
After putting up my favorite albums of 2006 , I thought I'd venture in the other direction by making a list of personal disappointments from this year. But then I changed my mind. After all, I'm trying to be more positive and not dwell on the negative, right? Right. So instead, I'm going to mention a few bands/artists that I'm looking forward to hearing from in 2007. If you really want to see the albums that disappointed me, go [...]

This is great news for one of my favorite bands, Moonbabies . They've been signed to a new label, Startracks , and they're very excited about it. It means a re-release of their debut album, June and Novas , and also a re-release of 2004's The Orange Billboard , in Digipak format and with bonus tracks. I think you know how much I love this band (see here ). I have one [...]
