Part one of the pics cavalcade will be for the show on the outside stage with Centro-Matic , Frank Smith and Moonlight Towers . Click through for a few comments and plenty of pics. Pound-for-pound, I call Moonlight Towers one of the best bands you [...]

Free Week in Austin may be over, but there's no rest for the wicked as there are several great local shows coming up this month. This Friday at Frank there is the killer triple bill of Gentlemen Rogues , Moonlight Towers , and Excited States . This will be an evening of loud, ringing guitars with plenty of hooks and melody. I've been a longtime fan of Gentlemen Rogues and Moonlight Towers, but in the past year I became a fan of local trio, Excited States. There's no finished album just yet but they recently posted [...]

Thursday, December 15, 2011 I cover local music for SOTO, so my end of the year-end list is Austin-focused (with a few exceptions). These are the artists I listened to the most, saw in concert multiple times, and was excited to recommend to friends. There's no special order or ranking here. They are simply the Texas bands that made me a little happier this year. Jennifer's Year-End List Leatherbag: This summer, Leatherbag released a musical 1-2 punch with their Yellow Television [...]

Austin outfit shines a bright light on power pop. Moonlight Towers have been hailed as both Austin's finest power pop export and the city's three-minute heroes. And for good reason. The quartet comes on fast, hits hard, and almost always leaves you wanting more. Rather than re-treading the jangle rock practically invented by Big Star and perfected by the likes of early R.E.M. and the Feelies, this quartet expands the palette with horns and shimmy/shake rhythms that are more in tune with classic R&B...

Moonlight Towers "Day Is The New Night" Austin Texas band plays meaty rock and roll here, the opener "Heat Lightning" was a favorite of Little Steven Van Zandt, with its twin guitar riffs and horns in the chorus. Lead singer, songwriter and guitarist James Stevens has a knack for tunes that have as more hooks than a baitshop. Highlights include "Can't Shake This Feelin'" and the mid-tempo "Distant Wheels" which boasts fine soulful harmonies similar to Three Dog Night. The bands' harder rock tendencies are kept in check until the right [...]
Proclaimed “amazing” by Performing Songwriter for creating what the Chicago Reader calls “perfectly molded power-pop,” Moonlight Towers is “Austin’s favorite three-minute heroes” according to the Austin American-Statesman and the renowned music city’s “finest power pop export” (Pop Culture Press). Moonlight Towers (taking its name from the tall vintage streetlights that illuminate Austin’s nights) is a [...]

Perfect pop songs are few and far between, but Austin-based Moonlight Towers has definitely picked up the scent if Heat Lightening is any indication. Shocking how much power-pop goodness one can cram into 2:48 with a little planning. The band's newest, On Day Is The New Night , is available now and the perfect compliment to summer BBQs, beatdowns and bah mitzvahs. MP3 : Moonlight Towers - Heat Lightening

Oh my, where do the days go? Ray Davies once sang "Thank you for the days, those endless days, those sacred days you gave me ." And in the hot summer days of fun, Waved Rumor has gotten waylaid...down the hall, kicked under a bed. I'l try to be a better blogger. Here are some musical informative tidbits to share and be shared. Ready? Go! - Bob Mould will be performing with house band The Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this Wednesday, June 22. They'll be performing a selection of [...]

"Austin, Texas band Moonlight Towers (taking its name from the tall vintage streetlights that illuminate Austin’s nights) is a genuine band that does what comes naturally: writing, recording and playing real rock n’ roll (with a hearty pop kick!) It’s really that simple. "On Day Is The New Night , the band’s third long-player, the foursome delivers its finest and richest offering yet. Such superlatives become viscerally tangible the moment the band steamrolls into “Heat Lightning,” the disc’s aptly named lead track. The timeless potency of two mighty guitars and muscular bass and drums bring [...]
The lead up to Coachella (see the Coachella Mix) and Record Store Day (extensive RSD mixes with rare songs), meant that we didn't get to all of the Best New Releases for the week of April 12th. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 I had planned to write about this weekend’s Austin Psych Fest, but I assume everyone is already in the know about that. If not, just be sure to check out Shapes Have Fangs on Friday or Roky Erickson on Sunday night, and you should be fine. Now, here's some info on another show that might be of interest to you. Saturday night at Antone’s there will be a show to celebrate the release of Day Is The New Night, which is [...]
This Austin, Texas band plays classic American rock. That's not to be confused with classic rock which according to some, is stuck in the past. This band definitely mixes sounds from the past and present. The band has been making waves in music city since 2001. They have a rootsy yet upbeat sound. Something that could get people jumping and dancing. Their lyrics are soulful yet fun. "Can't Shake
