from the band: MISSING! MOOSE on the LOOSE At our recent Amoeba in-store performance in Hollywood I had the misfortune of being separated from a beloved plastic Moose, or rather: it from me. This Moose was given to me by a dear friend and is inscribed with the word "ALASKA" on one flank and "DR. DOG" on the inverse. For the past year, the Moose has ridden along on the handle of my stand at each and every show. Musicians, like humans, are a ritualistic bunch and I [...]
i've been digitising old videos. i must have watched this one a million times. brilliant band. brilliant song. brilliant version. shame the director focused almost entirely on russell. note tim gane (stereolab) on guitar. the scene that celebrates itself indeed.
I've probably said it here before but my favourite era for music was 1989 to 1993. Madchester, shoegaze, grunge, dreampop and early Britpop were all represented in that golden era. So from to time I like to look back and bask in a forgotten gem. This time it is London band Moose who recorded a trio of revered EP's on Verve's label Hut Records. Their sound (they still haven't officially broken up
I just returned from DownEast Maine a couple of weeks ago. You know.... blueberries, moose and Bar Harbor. Had a blast with the whole family. The Head of the River Baptist Church flew us all up and showed how gracious the Maine people are, once again. We had the opportunity to sing at two coffeehouses and two churches on the short trip. It is always such a blessing to be with all of them. Can't wait to do it again....God willing, of course. Here is a video of the song ' Mile [...]
I've never been one to have a favorite band, but if push came to shove, Moose would be in contention. The band started around 1990 and were initially lumped in with the shoegaze movement in the UK. Their contemporaries of the time were bands like Lush , Boo Radleys and Ride to name a few, and their first three ep's released on the Virgin subsidiary Hut did have the distorted guitar and were typical of the shoegaze movement. But with the third of those ep's, they hinted at something a [...]

This week SVB opens up the vaults for some of the lost classics - the buried treasures of music. Today it's The Feelies, 5ive Style and Moose. Words & Music for today's contribution comes from Sean Byrne, the man behind the great Twin Atlas The Feelies The Good Earth (1986) â€" This (currently out of print) album always lives in the shadow of their Crazy Rhythms [...]

This track comes from the American collection of the first three Moose EPs. A quick web search shows that they actually were still releasing stuff up until 2000. Part of the UK shoegaze scene of the early 90's, Moose released this EP on Virgin Records in 1992. Due to the poor sales of their album, the band was dropped and later picked up by Play It Again Sam which is also home to some other great bands like The Legendary Pink Dots, Young Gods and more recently, Sigur Ros and Mogwai. One small bit of information that I didn't know [...]
Moose are a fine example of a band who got a whole bunch of positive press when they first appeared. Triumphed as one of the leading lights of the shoegazing movement this got them into the music papers but soon become a noose around their neck that they never really escaped from. Their first three EPs gave the impression they were destined for greatness but as they moved away from their
