The electro infused UK duo of Morcheeba , are preparing for their sixth release, their first one without long time front lady Skye Edwards, titled Dive Deep . Left without a vocal lead, the duo was forced to collaborate with various non-permanent artists like Thomas Dybdahl, Cool Calm Pete etc, that although brought a fresh dose of music, caused Morcheeba not to sound Morcheeba anymore. Such is the case with " Enjoy The Ride ," featuring vocals from the venerable Judie Tzuke, a over all decent and warming song, but that lacks the groups familiar vibe, that's been [...]
The trip-hop UK duo, of Morcheeba , are just a few weeks away from their highly anticipated new album, titled " Dive Deep ," release. With over 6 million albums, several tours behind their back and some of the most moving and instantly recognizable tunes throughout the nineties, Paul and Ross Godfrey are confident they've made a record that's set to propell them back into the spotlight. Actually the Godfrey brothers consider Dive Deep as a "emotional blueprint" which has restored their faith in music . For this sixth studio album however, the [...]

The effort, dubbed Dive Deep , comes at you from Ultra Records in only 5 weeks time . The album's guests, most of which were gotten by way of that lovely invention called MySpace, range from established names such as acclaimed singer-songwriter Judie Tzuke, to newcomers Thomas Dybdahl from Norway, rapper Cool Calm Pete, and Manda, a French singer who contacted the band to admit it was her dream to sing with them. Here's what Paul Godfrey had to say about the record, track by track: 01 ENJOY THE RIDE [...]

How it works nowadays: you're an unknown artist, it's your dream to collaborate with a fairly known triphop/lounge-collective, you send 'm a message via their MySpace site, and bang, you end up on their new album ánd you go on a European tour with them. Happened to French singer Manda , she was picked up by Morcheeba . The latter, you might know them from songs like Trigger Hippy and Rome Wasn't Build in a Day, used to have one singer, Skye , but for new album Dive Deep the producers decided to take the Massive Attack-route [...]
I think for every music enthusiast, there comes a defining moment in your life where you really discover music. During the mid-90's, amidst the experimental phase of MTV (or how I refer to it, the only time MTV mattered), that moment came in the form of the music video program Amp . The series ran from 1996-2001 - though it hit its peak in 1998 before it fell apart when it was later called Amp 2.0 - and showcased electronica to the mainstream. The show would come on every [...]

Been watching far too much Jam, or "Jaaaaaaaaaaam", the Chris Morris ex-radio now TV series, and its (frankly) fucked... But it has an awesome ambiance soundtrack including some killer tracks, so here we have some of the better tracks off the surreal Jame Firstly DJ Shadow , born Josh Davis, is a Californian DJ, Producer/Musical genius. His first album Entroducing was constructed completely from samples, and it is here that we find our first track Midnight in a Perfect World. I have always liked this track and only realised today that the sample that plays throughout is [...]

Do you remember the 90's? When trip-hop and electronica suddenly, for a brief moment, sounded interesting & new? When a somewhat mediocre band could garnish huge success through the sultry strength of their singer's voice? Let's do an experiment and see what might happen if you take such a band, remove the singer & continue to give the backing band funding. What might you bet will happen? Hit the fast-forward to modern day & observe the "new" core of Morcheeba (original band-mate brothers Ross & Paul Godfrey) carrying on without the inimitable Skye Edwards, [...]

Blog tag. Phronesisaical has tagged MdM with Thinkin Blogs meme. Five blogs that prod MdM's often apathetical and isolated brain. It takes awhile to respond since this is MdM's first (much too long). But I suppose This is how MdM will respond. With a playlist. First of all, we would like to thank Phronesisaical for mentioning MdM. We are very proud. Here are five blogs that often push our collective brain to think: 1. 20 Jazz Funk Greats 2. The Rawking Refuses [...]

I've already written just a bit on the head-scratching musings and sheepish admissions that Sam and I have had over this particular problem. It certainly doesn't reflect a general lack of either interest in or ownership of music by female artists. I think that when a monthly topic is vague or general, we simply search out songs by whoever. But when a topic is more specific in terms of the songs having some commonality, for some reason it stops being about the artist and becomes about the topic of the songs. For instance, I just looked [...]

Well, this update comes to you a couple weeks behind schedule, but hopefully I'll be able to justify the wait. Enjoy! I've discussed Morcheeba recently, and this is one of the songs that have made them a listening staple over the past few weeks. While the acoustic version of the song preserves the vocal, you really miss the wicked turntableism and thumping percussion that makes the studio version so very enjoyable. I also forgot to mention that Skye put out a solo album last year, [...]

Hey. Sorry things have been quiet over the last few days; it's been quite a week. I'm sure some of you have run into MyDataBus bandwidth troubles, and I apologize for the inconvenience, but if it isn't available today, try again tomorrow. I'm shuffling hosts at the moment, and if anyone has info on a particularly good one, please let me know. If you really need a set, feel free to contact me and I'll get it to you somehow. I've been recommended Morcheeba from virtually the instant I got into trip-hop, and it's [...]

Please Sir.. I always think of Morcheeba as a little bit magical. I remember first hearing them and even just hearing the name "Morcheeba." It was like one of those moments in a '60s psychedelic movie where the camera explodes into kaleidoscopic colors and everyone starts staggering around the room and falling over. On a less mystical level, just two producers and a singer, Morcheeba blends the downtempo trip-hop vibe with enough eclectic touches to make them actually interesting. [...]
