Their reasons were addressed in public letter to fans along with a free mixtape of warm, chiffon-soft electronic tunes on their new website. I was skeptical about The Morning Benders changing their name to POP ETC and starting down a new, different sounding path. I didn't know what to expect or if Chris Chu was just going through some musical identity crisis (not true), yet after talking to some friends at Beggars they told me to prepare for an exciting new sound. For a band, changing your name after achieving a respectable level of critical and commercial success is a very risky proposition. While it's not recommended, it does happen, and POP ETC (the band formerly known as The Morning Benders ) are the most recent example of this unorthodox decision making.
