Well, this is a first. The wonderful, and down-right badass, Kendra Morris has only gone and made us an actual Birthday card. The lovely and talented Kendra often puts together collages and she was good enough to do one for us, all in honour of our third birthday. Which is a lovely way to end an overwhelming day. Kendra, who has been called ' a modern day Janis Joplin ', releases a new covers album, Mockingbird, at the end of July, which is the follow-up to her Banshee LP - [...]

Interview by Tom Johnson There's something instantly bewitching about Rae Morris . Even before you hear that singing voice you're intrigued. Rae is a twenty-year old from Blackpool who has already achieved a ridiculous amount considering she's yet to release her debut album. There have been releases though; three EP's of quiet, under-stated torch songs have seen her gain some notable support slots and seen the hype around her slowly build and build. And it's on the live scene where she's really made her name. Likened to Kate Bush and Feist, she has one of [...]

Over the last year Sweater Beats , aka Antonio Cuna, has been putting out a steady stream of tracks to fall in love with & make love to. Last night marked his debut on Boiler Room TV & to celebrate, he’s giving away his sensual remix of Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake”. Look out for his forthcoming releases & download his split release with with MORRI$, Young Love/Heartbreak Volume 3 , for free [...]
Natasha Kmeto LFTF Mix “Detroit, New York, LA, London, Ibiza, and Berlin all loom large in the world of dance music—but Portland, OR has managed to hold its own. The city gave us Philip Sherburne, the high priest of electronic music writing, and has recently fostered a vibrant community of dance music visionaries, from the lo-fi house throwbacks leaking out of the Ecstasy Collective to the swirling indie bass jams offered up by the Dropping Gems crew. The latter group has been gearing up to release a new EP from Natasha Kmeto, a Portland-based singer/songwriter and [...]

Yeah, we know Valentine's Day was yesterday, but there's no reason you can't have a bit of romance in your life every day. Continuing their yearly tradition, Sweater Beats and MORRI$ have teamed up again to give us the Young Love / Heartbreak Vol. 3 E P, which is free to download. It's excellent chilled electronic beats and one of the Sweater Beats tracks features vocals from the GTW, so we recommend sharing this with your loved ones right away.

Getting tired of all this free Valentine's Day music? Neither are we. And thanks to Morri$ and Sweater Beats, we have yet another project to make this romantic day extra special. Young Love / Heartbreak now has three installments to add to its name, as the dynamic duo release Volume 3 of the EP series. The five-song project is electronic-driven, and layered with sentimental instrumentation. Young Love also sees a vocal feature from the GTW, who adds a nice touch to the EP's second arrangement. Label Love #1: NIGHT SLUGS Metrojolt is proud to present our new monthly series LABEL LOVE, a monthly installment we started to show our favorite music labels the love and respect that they deserve!! The labels we have chosen to kick things off with our new series are the one and only NIGHT SLUGS. First created in London in 2008 by DJs and producers Alex Sushon (aka. BOK BOK) and James Connolly (aka. L-Vis 1990), Night Slugs quickly racked up a squad of colorful and innovative producers that would play a vital role in [...]
Wow, where to begin. There are few songs that can give me physical shivers and goosebumps anymore but MORRI$ has, by far, affected me in that way on "Ladyboy". That says something about a producer in this day and age. Emotion has been stripped from so many avenues of music from the obligation of artists to be catchy or poppy or to appeal to the masses. There is a very human chord that should resonate in you while listening to this tune. Having grown up in a place like Kansas (no offense), a producer with the [...]

Lawrence, Kansas based beat-wizard, Morri$, let fly an interesting track via FADER the other day, and it's just too good to not share. "Ladyboy" is smooth with sporadic drums, consistent horn lines and a bouncy synth chord progression. The bass hits hard and the vocal samples are placed ever so delicately throughout the song. Having caught his opening act for Gaslamp Killer at the Central SAPC in early December of last year, Morri$ is proving to be something of a force both live and in the studio. The most tender of trap love notes courtesy of a producer who is always full of surprises, MORRI$ . This is the song that plays in your head if you ever make it to that fantastically ridiculous chocolate factory that kid Charlie talked about when you were a kid. Whatchu know about that gummy goombawave? 'Ladyboy' looks to be a track off MORRIS' forthcoming release on Bear Club Music which drops May 2, 2013. Big tings!

If you're on the internets like we are, you've been following Kansas-based Goombawaver MORRI$ for quite some time. At this point, the man born Phil Canty is basically on the precipice of stardom and recently featured on Night Slugs' latest all stars compilation. With "Ladyboy", the first release on Bear Club Music Group (BCMG wut), MORRI$ mixes the world of frantic Southern drug programming and what basically amounts to lounge music. The results are angelic to say the least and mutate nicely from laidback drug music to a projectile more worthy of club play. "Ladyboy" is out on February 5, [...]

In putting together our list of acts to watch for in 2013, we had the difficulty of leaving off a slew of artists we want to see blow up this year. For example, there's Midwestern producer Morri$ , who continues to trickle out new music every so often. We've been following dude for more than a year now , anxiously awaiting the drop of an album, EP, or single. It's with that in mind that I'm pretty ecstatic to hear this new joint, "Ladyboy", and its lush vibes, thick-as-fuck bass, and pitch-shifting vocal samples. Listen below and cross [...]
Morri$’ "Ladyboy" is an interesting one. If you wanted, you could spend hours, weeks, months, even years sifting through decent electronic music from the first part of this decade. There's Bandcamp and Soundcloud and digital-only ... read more

Kicking off our Best of 2012 guest series is my good friend and Brasstax partner in crime, Jake Guidry . For those of you who don't know Jake, he's a DJ and writer living here in Chicago who's contributed to the late Signal residency at Smart Bar, publications like Chicagoist and XLR8R and even our very own Mix Series . Along with his top "lean" tracks of 2012, he offers some insight as to how much a musicians musical state of mind can shift throughout the [...]

2012 was a pretty amazing year for "Future" music. A lot of incredible artists, a lot of amazing releases. While certain unbearably aggressive genres (ehem) were being washed away due to people finally coming to their senses (for the most part) quality rose to the top again allowing Future Bass, Garage and soulful House to take the forefront. Here's what was awesome in 2012: EVERYBODY GET BACK IN THE HOUSE: It seems as though most roots Dubstep or bass heavy artists from 2005 and on have [...]

Ladies and gentlemen, hang on to your knickers because Night Slugs are prepping the release of their second Allstars compilation. Night Slugs All Stars Volume 2 1. L-Vis 1990 – Lost In Love (Night Slugs Allstars Street Mix) 2. Girl Unit – Ensemble (Club Mix) [...]

The good people at The Central in Santa Monica had a monster lineup this past Saturday (12/8). And I was glad to be there for it. Sun Araw started the night off well, mixing different experimental sounds with funk based grooves. He even had three Santas and a Reindeer rocking out (4 X-mas dressed concert goers, though it was the first night of Hanukkah). As Sun Araw finished up, the crowd started to grow and move away from the bar and towards the stage for the next set from Dam-Funk. LA based and Stones Throw records artist Dam-Funk brought the [...]
