by BBG DOWNLOAD: Moss Icon - "I'm Back Sleeping, Or Fucking, Or Something" (MP3) If you can only see one band at Chaos in Tejas year, bets are that you'll probably try and catch Moss Icon . The semi-reunited emotional post-hardcore heroes (dont say emo!) will play a single show at the annual Austin, Texas festival in conjunction with their recently released discography out now via [...]

In the mid-late 1980s, Moss Icon pioneered a progressive, highly emotive sound that stood in stark contrast to just about everything even remotely considered punk-rock at the time. In retrospect, they more resembled an inspired marriage of the bleak post-punk leanings of Joy Division with the raucous riffage of the Wipers, albeit considerably less accessible thanks to Moss Icon's more sinister tone, Tonie Joy's exploratory arrangements, and frontman Jonathan Vance's almost stream-of-conscious sociopolitical rampages. "Complete Discography", by Moss Icon is out May 8 2012 via Temporary Residence Ltd. Read more »

The Fader is streaming the new Complete Discography collection from Maryland post-punks Moss Icon . Moss Icon formed in 1987, releasing a number of 7"s and full-lengths before calling it quits in 1991.

Man, Austin, TX really knows how to party. Between South by Southwest and now Chaos in Tejas, downtown Austin must have a ton of whiskey puke on it's streets. This year's Chaos In Tejas lineup looks pretty fucking metal as well, with performances announced by Nasum, Moss Icon, Saint Vitus, Best Coast, Drop Dead, The ...

From time to time in the course of human history natural depravity plumbs new depths—and not only during wars. The Sawney Beane case concerned a family that lived in a cave and chose murder, cannibalism, and incest as its way of life. For twenty-five years this family, rejecting all accepted standards of human behaviour and morality, carried on a vicious guerrilla war against humanity. Even a medieval world accustomed to torture and violence was horrified. Sawney Beane was born in a small East Lothian village not ten miles from Edinburgh. His father worked the land, but [...]

Fuck I have been listening to this band for like the past two weeks. So good... check out the song below... moss icon - locket
This (these) post(s) is (are) actually an updated and much more comprehensive repost of this one and this one and should hopefully satiate everyone that's been asking for these to be reposted. It also serves as a reminder that way before what teens, tweens, and over-protective parents today think of as emo, the term was shorthand for emotional hardcore. It was not a dirty word that referred to the lifestyle that gets so much negative press these days. It did not mean faux-depression, eyeliner, bad haircuts, and just plain ridiculousness. [...]
Way before what teens today think of as emo, the term was shorthand for emotional hardcore. It was not a dirty word that referred to the lifestyle that gets so much negative press these days. Originating in the Washington, DC music scene of the mid-1980's, some so-called "first-wave" emo or emocore bands included Rites of Spring, Embrace, and Moss Icon. Then came Fugazi (featuring ex-members of Rites of Spring and Embrace), Jawbox, and so on from there... This is (according to me) a brief history of emo in music only. Yes, it will be incomplete in some [...]

Here's another track from the "Superpowers Cassette" (check November 27th's post for an Iconoclast song from the same release). Moss Icon was an Annapolis, Maryland band who broke up in 1991. This cassette was released in 1993, but the accompanying zine mentioned that they had been collecting songs for years, so this might have been one of their last recorded songs. As far as I know, this is the only place where the song was available. Moss Icon got back together for two shows in 2001, one in Baltimore and one at the More Than Music Festival. I've been looking [...]
A few odds and ends: First, a request to me regarding my post about the All the President's Men Comp . Reader Brian would like to check out the Hoover song "Breather Resist." Hey why not? Hoover - "Breather Resist" (mp3) *** A couple of thoughts about the Punk Guy's ABC's of punk. Not that he's probably ever heard of them, but I like early 90s band Kid's Meal for the letter K . These guys were from Copperas Cove, which [...]
