Post-punk outfit Moss Icon has announced a rare reunion show in October at Le Poisson Rouge in New York. The performance will feature support from contemporaries (and reissue label mates) Bitch Magnet . Both bands have been the subject of extensive reissues from Temporary Residence . The label compiled all of Moss Icon's material on Complete Discography and re-released Bitch Magnet's three albums as a triple CD and triple LP set. In the mid-late 1980s, Moss Icon pioneered a progressive, highly emotive sound that stood in stark contrast to just about everything even remotely considered punk-rock at the time. In retrospect, they more resembled an inspired marriage of the bleak post-punk leanings of Joy Division with the raucous riffage of the Wipers, albeit considerably less accessible thanks to Moss Icon's more sinister tone, Tonie Joy's exploratory arrangements, and frontman Jonathan Vance's almost stream-of-conscious sociopolitical rampages. The Fader is streaming the new Complete Discography collection from Maryland post-punks Moss Icon . To celebrate the release, the band is performing at the upcoming Chaos in Tejas Festival this June in Austin, TX. The band has stated that they may announced additional shows for later this year. Here's another track from the "Superpowers Cassette" (check November 27th's post for an Iconoclast song from the same release). Moss Icon was an Annapolis, Maryland band who broke up in 1991. This cassette was released in 1993, but the accompanying zine mentioned that they had been collecting songs for years, so this might have been one of their last recorded songs. As far as I know, this is the only place where the song was available. Moss Icon got back together for two shows in 2001, one in Baltimore and one at the More Than Music Festival.
