What Crowe comes to find, though, is hardly the inner turmoil that many fans -- and, if Crowe [...]

Let us beat past the arduous task of re-explaining everything we've mouthed on at great length about here , here , and here . With numerous members of our staff pushing 30, it's no surprise that we have such a loyal early-902s fan base amongst us. We were likely born in a cloud of Aqua Net, only to be raised by ravaging alt-rock wolfpacks, and we're goddamned proud of it! For those 702s alumni out there who could stage dive at Alice Cooper with the best of 'em... stop pickin' on me or I'll use my Wayne [...]

"So, welcome to Pearl Jam 20, Queens of the Stone Age 14, The Strokes 12, Liam Finn 14, Mudhoney 23, and John Doe 34," a breathless, sweat-soaked Eddie Vedder regaled late Saturday night. Under a thick mop of hair, the acclaimed Pearl Jam frontman smiled humbly, staring at his thousands of die hard fans, as he clenched his bottle of wine in celebration. From floating atop a surfboard in the Pacific Ocean to rolling through 30+ songs at Alpine Valley in East Troy, WI, Vedder has lived an envious dream [...]
Pearl Jam celebrated 20 years together this weekend at Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin by busting our rarities, welcoming a slew of special guests and all around kicking ass through two lengthy headlining sets. Pearl Jam - Love Reign O'er Me Among the guests the Seattle grunge pioneers welcomed to the stage were Dhani Harrison, Josh Homme, Julian Casablancas, Liam Finn and Soundgarden's Chris Cornell for a Temple of the Dog reunion of sorts. Here's a look at the setlists thanks to our friends at [...]
This weekend isn't just Labor Day weekend but it's also the weekend we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Pearl Jam's existence. The band is doing so by holding their own festival at the Alpine Valley theater in East Troy, Wisconsin. Night one took place on Saturday night and it was a buffet of goodness for all the diehard PJ fans that made the trip to help the band celebrate. Up top, you can check out a Temple of the Dog reunion that took place as Chris Cornell hit the stage to perform "Hunger Strike" alongside Eddie Vedder. [...]

During the first night of Pearl Jam's 20th anniversary music festival in Alpine Valley, Temple of the Dog reunited, Chris Cornell aided in covers of Mother Love Bone, The Strokes' Julian Casablancas lent his vocals for "Not For You", Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme guested on "In The Moonlight", and Liam Finn, The Swell Season's Glen Hansard, and Mudhoney's Dan Peters joined the band for "Who Are You". Night two better feature the resurrection of Kurt Cobain or I'm going to be disappointed. Our complete recap of Pearl Jam 20 is forthcoming, but we [...]

We continue to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Pearl Jam this year by now offering up a song from the forthcoming soundtrack of their documentary, Pearl Jam Twenty . The song is "Crown of Thorns" which started off as a Mother Love Bone track back when Stone Goddard and Jeff Ament were in the band with frontman Andrew Wood. After Wood passed away, Goddard and Ament brought the song with them when they joined Pearl Jam and the rest is history. This version of the song was recorded back in 2000 at the MGM Grand in [...]

Here's a little Rock History 101 lesson: Before Pearl Jam , Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard were a part of Seattle collective Mother Love Bone, fronted by one Andrew Wood. After Wood's tragic overdose on March 19, 1990, however, Ament and Gossard formed the essential grunge outfit we know and love today. For the past decade or so, the band has played homage to their previous roots by covering Mother Love Bone's infectious "Crowd of Thorns". Widely considered Mother Love Bone's essential hit, it's now become a live staple of Pearl Jam's sets, which is why it makes sense [...]
On the man's 54th birthday it seemed appropriate to rediscover some of the music which worked its way into his films, so sit back, click play and experience five great songs from Cameron Crowe films.

afternoon.... what we have here is a show that andy wood and mother love bone performed about two months before his untimely passing and took place at the vogue theatre in seattle on 1.3.90. woah! creepy, cause as i just noticed today is the 3rd. so, doing some math means it took place 21 years ago, today. that is both depressing as it is creepy. if you have never checked out apple their one and only official release, i cant recommend it enough. 1. this is shangrila 2. "You're traveling through another history, a history not only of sight and sound but of mind; a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead — your next stop, Alternate History X ." Oh, grunge rock, I hardly knew thee. For I had been saddled with the late-'90s pejorative "post-grunge" - a term widely accepted among fans of alternative rock as a mere derivative of the early '90s, not a legitimately artistic phenomenon. To elaborate, during that decade's former half, Seattle was busting at the [...]

Kelly Clarkson had her turn in the New York Times ' "Playlist" chair yesterday , and the results were, well, mixed. Weezer's red album got a shoutout, as did the Irish band The Script , who Clarkson described as-eek!-"OneRepublic meets rap." Kelly, Kelly, Kelly. Aw, Kelly. Listen. In honor of you being my favorite American Idol (and having one of my favorite albums of the year) (well, except for all those songs by the OneRepublic guy, which are just plodding and terrible and tuneless and ugh ), I decided to craft a mix CD [...]

![Admit It: There's No Better Musical Valentine Than A Well-Executed Cover Song [Somethin 4 The Weekend]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1526238_lg.jpg)
Between this Monday's release of the latest covers-stuffed War Child charity album —which includes the Yeah Yeah Yeahs ' take on "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker" and Lily Allen 's drowsy reworking of "Straight To Hell" —and the "what are your favorite cover songs" meme going around Facebook lately, I figured it would be fun to have us all share some of our favorite reworkings of popular songs. A few of mine after the jump, presented with minimal comment because after a week of scandals and Grammys and people [...]

_ Completing a sorely repeating malfunction. Stop and start. Recycling a ticker-tape story that never was. Stop and start, again. A script that 'spoke to me' in the most meaningful of fucked-up ways. It's held in a manner, a timing, a posture; just a way of being, eh? But is it that late already? Was it traffic? My moment (ha!) is nearly up here and this is as good as it gets, in terms of trying to reflect on my time in Seattle. On so many levels it has not been what I expected it to be. You've seriously [...]

If you look close enough, tucked away in your local CD Warehouse or Sam Goody is a copy of Stardog Champion - a compilation of two albums by Mother Love Bone . For those who aren't familiar, sit back and relax because this has become a history lesson. Right on the cusp of a grunge revolution in 1988, there were some guys in long hair and faded denim from a newly recognized Seattle, WA underground scene. These select few decided they were going to infuse post-Zeppelin rock into the infantile alternative '90s scene ahead. What [...]
Song: Stardog Champion Artist: Mother Love Bone Album: Apple Comments: Back in 1991 I loved Pearl Jam, but the minute I heard Mother Love Bone my allegiances quickly switched over to the fallen pre-cursor. They are better in so many respects. I listen to this band often, but for the life of me I can't remember the last time I listened to Pearl Jam. Song: Micro Cuts Artist: Muse Album: Origin of Symmetry Comments: This blind stab at opera and alternative music should not [...]
