Sophomore albums are a tricky thing. For the most part I have found them very interesting to discover, especially when they are from a familiar band I have lost track of for a few years. During my senior year of high school, my best friend Danny was raving about this Canadian alternative/ indie rock band that he absolutely loved. When he played me the band I was intrigued and wanted to hear more, which he gladly obliged. That band was Rah Rah . Fast forward to 2008 when they released their debut album Going Steady , [...]
by teepoo Rather than post you some stupidly generic list of albums you are supposed to expect, I think my top 10 is going to be based on the fact I actually listened to these releases the most this year. Come on , if an album is good, it must be one of your top plays right? These are based on stats according to iTunes and Last.fm plays as well as the fact I physically own them. I don't believe in people's top lists if they [...]

I didn't see Vancouver's Mother Mother play at Ottawa's Broson Centre for a sold out show on November 24, 2011. But I managed to do a short interview with band members Ali Siadat who plays drums and Jasmin Parker who plays keyboards and one of the singers. It was a nice interview I did with both of them. In the interview I asked: How excited for them to play in Ottawa About their European tour Favorite city in Europe they enjoyed [...]

It has been a great year for Mother Mother . Their song "The Stand" from their latest record Eureka has caught a lot of attention. And this band deserves more attention. They are a must listen for any fan of Metric . When I reached Ryan from Mother Mother , he was doing the dishes at his father's house on Quadra Island. Ryan was enjoying a bit of down time. I am glad he was relaxed because I could ask him questions like " What [...]

Flighty falsetto pushed Canadian indie-popsters, Mother Mother continue to use the buoyancy of lead man Ryan Guldemond, against a flighty and varied backdrop. Rustling percussion and revolving guitars clash with the combined rustic, occasionally buoyant synth and key push of Molly Guldemond and Jasmin Parkin. Wallflowers are explored with attention to detail and neighbourly concern through the meaningful lyrics: "She doesn't feel the sound, she feel for the ground. She like a dead fish in a cold pan, she don't give an inch to the band." Ryan Guldemond does a great line in [...]

Canadian indie-rockers Mother Mother played The Lexington in London on Monday (October 10), with locals Younghusband opening. Check out some photos from the show courtesy of Haley Plotkin . [...]

Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: Mother Mother Video: 'Baby Don't Dance' Highlight: "'Baby Don't Dance' touches on the paralyzing effects of inhibition, and the video shoot itself was really just an opportunity to break down some of those barriers," singer/guitarist Ryan Guldemond tells Spinner. "We showed up with no plan, invited some friends, had some drinks, danced around and played air guitar. It didn't really feel like any cameras were rolling."
