A short video log of Mother Mother's first tour of the UK, which took place in May 2010. Part 1 of 2 parts more about "Mother Mother UK Tour VLog Part 1 of 2", posted with vodpod
Gruelling The Pixies-eque atmospheric instrumentals build into a JJ72 styled indie stroll, before the stammering vocal delivery of Ryan Guldemond and sturdy guitars give new single, 'Oh My Heart' a passing heavier touch. Mother Mother continues Canada's trend for coming up with moody and ranging acts. Something that is well drawn out in the more [...]

Canada's Mother Mother are set to release the title track from forthcoming album 'O My Heart' on June 21st.
I've got some more Mother Mother for the masses today, and some contrived alliteration for good measure. Ghosting is another standout track from the band's second full-length release O My Heart, and the fourth song from the album we have highlighted at BowlingStone. The song employs a slightly more subdued approach than most Mother Mother tracks, but [...]

So you know what? It is difficult to find pictures of stuff with seven assorted "things". I've used from toes to frogs to The Count and even Jim Carrey to help celebrate the number seven in the past. I have decided that the new hotness is the number eight. Why have seven songs when you could listen to eight ?! Check that out, it's an eight legged frog. Check out eight songs that have [...]
New Music | Mother Mother OK, so maybe it's not brand spanking new to the world, but seeing as the album 'O My Heart' by Vancoverite 5 piece Mother Mother is finally being released in the UK (and indeed across Europe) on 31st May, we thought we'd refresh your memory on just how good it is! Bring on the filthy re-mixes we say! Head over to http://mothermothersite.com/ to find out more about their forthcoming UK tour...we know we are.
Adventure and rhythm tick along neatly, before quirkily cosmopolitan vocals make a dart between New Wave, Nu Rave, twisted folk and quirky indie. Vancouver's, Mother Mother uses the winding single 'Hay Loft', to show off their adventurously expansive ways. Saucy provocative vocals provided by Molly, are joined by the mildly panicky punch of Ryan. This [...]
Music video for Mother Mother's "Hayloft", off of O My Heart (Last Gang Records) Directed by Hill Kourkoutis
From Regina, Saskatchewan's eight-piece indie-pop collective Library Voices, comes one of the most satisfying tracks of the year so far; granted I am a sucker for absorbing west-coast(ish) harmonies and sunshine-pop. Drinking Games can be found on the band's to-be-released debut full-length album "Denim On Denim" which is scheduled to land on shelves April 13, [...]

My first-ever interview was with Mother Mother for an article in the Skinny (the piece is no longer online). I spoke with singer Ryan Guldemond for 45 minutes for a concert preview that was maybe 400 words. Sorry for wasting your time, dude. More recently (this week), I wrote an article about the band for the Tyee . It's not an interview, but check it out if you'd like to witness me fellate the band with words. Because seriously, Mother Mother is fucking great. [...]

This seriously took forever. But I have to get these out before I can do anything else on this site! Gah! I tried to go away from artists that are so mainstream on sites like P4K or Stereogum for this list but I realised I couldn't get away from it...and I guess that's because stuff like Arcade Fire, Animal Collective...etc etc really deserve to be at the top. ***Finally I am posting these decade end lists. Gaaah I love and hate lists. They enlighten me towards new music yet at the same time they're ridiculously subjective. [...]
Vancouver indie-rock/pop ensemble The Zolas are back with another deceptively infectous track from their 2009 debut album "Tic Toc Tic". Produced by Howard Redekopp (notable for prducing albums from Tegan and Sara , The New Pornographers , and Mother Mother ), Tic Toc Tic does well in delivering a three-piece band wrapped in a full-stage sound; The Great Collapse is a fine example that features it's own brass section, as well as an organ contribution that sounds like it could be a string section. The band is currently in the midst of a western Canadian [...]

Filed under: Exclusive , You Oughta Know , Canada The all-in-the-family dynamic has always been an interesting part of music making -- and marketing. It worked for the White Stripes , kept Oasis interesting and made ABBA 's pop ballads all the more emotional back when the quartet were two attractive, happily married couples. This almost-scientific appeal is also working for the Balconies , the indie pop-rock trio made up of lovers Liam Jaeger (drums) and Jacquie Neville (vocals/guitar), along with her younger [...]
QC Staff (edited by Chris Carpenter) "A man needs to look, not down, but up to standards set so much above his ordinary self as to make him feel that he is himself spiritually the underdog." - Irving Babbitt The 0's are over. The decade triumphantly ended, and now we're on to the teens. Still, like the end of a complicated relationship, we keep looking back. We figure if we let out [...]

Hi! My name is Desirée and I'm new here at BIYL. It may take a post or two for me to get into my groove, but I'm excited to be able to share with you some of the awesome music that crosses my path each and every day. I grew up in various cities just outside of Toronto, Canada, which fostered a love for the brilliantly diverse music that comes out of this country – from the east coast to the west and everything in between. Indie, Rock, Punk, Folk, Hip-hop – there are no genre limitations to [...]
Really cool song up today, and an even cooler delivery. Marlaina Kamikaze comes to us via the Vancouver, British Columbia duo of Zachary Gray (guitar) and Tom Dobrzanski (piano), otherwise known as The Zolas. The song can be found on the band's 2009 debut LP "Tic Toc Tic" which appears to have hit the streets early on in November. This particular version of the song is a live "first take" effort of the song that was done for Southern Souls . Southern Souls is the music/video project of filmmaker Mitch Fillion, inspired by efforts such as the [...]
ZACH THAT: Christmas has come very early this year. The always beautiful Take Away Show video segment recently hung out at the FME fest and recorded videos of two of my favorite bands: Clues and Mother Mother. Enjoy. CLUES: Take Away Show - FME Sessions - Clues #1 from Nathanaël Le Scouarnec on Vimeo . Take Away Show - FME Sessions - Clues #2 from Nathanaël [...]

Have to say that on December 11th, it was a totally busy day/night. After Bands Undone , I headed off to the CBC building down on Spark Street. There was a live event happening outside in the bitterly cold for CBC Radio 1's All In A Day . Special treat was a live performance by Jim Bryson and The Mighty Popo . There was a bid for the charity to have Jim Bryson sing whatever song the bidder wanted him to sing. [...]

Vancouver's Mother Mother made a stop at Canteen's Bands Undone on December 11th. They were in Ottawa for a show opening up for Matthew Good. So they were gracious enough to come by Canteen and sing three songs and answer some questions. The turnout for this session was great. It was a nice side of the band to go all acoustic with their music. The songs they sang were: O My ♥ Body Of Years [...]

Filed under: News , Canada The voice of Canadian music fans was heard loud and clear on Wednesday as CBC Radio 3 awarded top honours to artists such as Said the Whale , Joel Plaskett and Sloan , as part of the station's annual listener-voted Bucky Awards. Vancouver's Dan Mangan was the clear front-runner in the radio soirée hosted by CBC Radio 3 host Grant Lawrence. Cleaning up with nods for Best Vocals and Best Song for his infectious [...]
