From the press release: Saturday, July 28 , Antrim Dells will celebrate their first release, a seven song album titled, "Mother, Father". The venue is the historic, Harris Building on S.Division Avenue, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Vast, abandoned, and likely haunted, the ballroom on the second story will be the stage for the evening's assembly. Alex McGrath, sovereign figure-head of the Soil & the Sun, will open the night with a unique solo performance – drawing from more unrecognized songs and unreleased material. The album will be available [...]

Lil Tits Three some times you just want to riot reasons to head down to Panchos tonight... 1. Chicago trio Lil Tits call their sound "feminimalism" and there couldn't be a more accurate way to describe the group's riot grrrl-influenced punk rock. Lil Tits simplify the raw, aggressive style in which bands like L7 and Seven Year Bitch specialized to serve up some real, balls-to-the-wall rock action. LISTEN: " Alright Loser ." [...]

The Next Big Nashville music festival and conference took place a couple weeks ago, and, honestly, I think I’m still recovering. The NBN routine requires a full-timer/hobby blogger to juggle their daytime priorities while squeezing in select conference panels throughout the day, and then prepping for the pre-parties and long night of shows by changing outfits and doing makeup in the workplace restroom. One must be prepared to function off of power naps, Vitamin Water, and music. Keynote Artist Interview: Caleb Followill (Kings of Leon) [...]

In this week's chapter of "bands that sound like they're from the UK, but they're really from somewhere in the US", we meet Mother/Father . The Nashville collective come across as a moodier Psychedelic Furs with more to prove. It's curious that Mother/Father don't consider themselves an ordinary band, but more as a bunch of artists making music, and rightfully so. The task of music creation is less daunting I imagine when the expectation isn't all there. The end results are promising, and I can only hope they continue operating under that same notion. The [...]

A little introduction to this review, I don't know anything at all about Phoenix . Sure, their album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is/was wildly popular and played everywhere, but I never really got to listen to it. At the last minute I was able to snag tickets and head over to the Louisville Palace to catch their set with Mother Father from Nashville opening for them. I didn't know what to expect. I knew it would be fairly packed as Phoenix are [...]
Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: Mother/Father Video: 'Order' Highlight: With dark sounds of various decades prior, the art band delivers a slick monochrome video evoking propless Santaria, a barn side séance and an unsettling horse chase.
I mentioned in a post earlier today that Empire of the Sun 's "Walking On A Dream" is one of the most remixed songs this year. But I start to wonder if the song "1901" by Phoenix perhaps is the most remixed song this year. In my playlist I now got 20 remixes and the original song. And I believe there are even more out there. It's a good song the French pop gang has created therefore a lot of good acts wants to remix it. To make it not to hard-to-grasp for you guys [...]
Steve Cross OK, so we walked into The End on Saturday night secretly wishing that we'd cross the threshold and suddenly find ourselves awash in a sea of smart glasses, Talulah Gosh T-shirts, LP bags,... Continue reading "The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Zaza and More at The End 5/2/09" >
Labels can always be deceiving, and the past couple of bands that have labeled themselves with the "psychedelic" monitor have thrown me off. Nashville's Mother/Father , to me, are far from psychedelic, man. They have a sound that combines subtle Interpolian dark New Wavey-ness with a distinctly pop savvy of Tears For Fears. They don't sound like the typical band you would expect to come out of the home of Music Row. MP3: Mother/Father - Light Thieves [...]

My fav remix version of 1901 comes flown very nu-wavy by David Miller of Mother/Father gang. Pick of the bunch! Mp3: Phoenix - 1901 (David Millder Nu Wave Remix)

Phoenix came up with the single "19013 a few weeks back, and left us wanting so so much more. We really cannot wait for Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix to be released, and it seems many others feel the same way. Left to their own devices, they decided to reproduce the track in their own way. We have 3 different remixes of "19013 for you while we wait on the rest of the album. [...]
My friend Mario romanticises the British scene and often jokes that for somebody living in London my music taste is a little Americanised. My counter argument is that there is no reason to limit my taste with so much good music coming from around the world and besides, with The Killers sounding like an 80s [...]
I am now currently atop the hottest blog section. Yes, indeed a proud moment for one's self. It's so far the pinnacle of my blogging time. A bit sad I know but this moment is brilliant for me. I've been rather busy recently because of A levels but I thought I should post today. Firstly I was sent this the other day, an EP by band Mother/Father, the self-titled collection holds three quite good tracks which I recommend getting a hold of soon. Here's one of them; Mother/Father [...]

Mother/Father is an American band and art collective based in Nashville, TN. Mother/Father was founded in the winter of 2007 between New York, Nashville, & Southern Florida. Their body of work includes music and multimedia artwork (in the form of drawings, paintings, design and video). Rather than calling themselves a band, they prefer to be categorized as a group of artist making music. The group's first piece of recorded music, The Mother/Father EP , was self-released this month & was recorded by Jacquire King (Kings Of Leon, Modest Mouse, Tom Waits). Scene Magazine described them as [...]

Thursday feels like the real first day of the festival, which is no surprise really, considering the fact that there are fifteen different showcases for you to choose from, or hop in between. Yes, FIFTEEN. It's enough to make your head spin, which is one of the main reasons I decided to do these showcase-by-showcase preview posts in the first place. This is going to be a night of tough decisions no matter what your tastes in music veer towards - you've got several different brands of rock and singer-songwriter stuff to choose from. [...]
