It's not often you get a chance to catch The Downbeat 5 these days, what with the busy schedule Jen D'Angora's been keeping with Jenny Dee & the Deelinquents , but luckily they're playing a few shows here and there and one of them's tomorrow night at The Rosebud (Davis Square), a fairly new venue (it's the much larger restaurant/banquet type space behind the diner car) that I quite like. Shows there run cheap – I think usually $5 – and most of the time only two bands are on the bill so each band gets a [...]
Artists! (and those pretending to be!) Golden Bloom and The Motion Sick have gone head-to-head releasing a split 7" with: Golden Bloom covering The Motion Sick's "30 Lives" The Motion Sick covering Golden Bloom's "Doomsday Devices" You can help decide the pop-sugary outcome of this clash of the titans by designing the artwork! Here is the evidence: The Motion Sick Static of the Gods The Living Sea Where the Land Meets the Sea Ghost Ocean

Haven't you ever wished you could buy a combo pass to go to shows at both the ME up and the ME down? There have been many many nights when both floors hosted bands I wanted to see but I just couldn't stomach two $10+ covers. That's why I think it's brilliant that the super fabulous Middle East booking team came up with this one: a two-fer pass for $15 for the night of 11/13. That's right, $15 gets you access to both shows, and you can show-hop as many times as you desire. This makes excellent sense given both [...]

JC McKitterick opened up the night, he is Tad's (from Sidewalk Driver) brother. I was in a parking nightmare and totally missed his set, unfortunately. However, he did take an opportunity to jump on stage and sing along with Tad on their song, Mrs. Tingle. The Motion Sick played mostly new material (which includes a song that a violin bow abuses a guitar) and rocked the early slot. Aloud was next and debuted new band members! And new color coordination, I'm loving their all [...]

Four years is a VERY long time to have a band together and not have put out a CD (in recent times at least). And if you've witnessed Sidewalk Driver 's live show (complete with costume changes, glitter, smoke machines, fake eyelashes and MORE) you've wanted to take some SD home with you. So it was with great anticipation and total dread that I approached listening to our press copy of their DEBUT CD, For All the Boys & Girls . Dread, because I was worried that this would not live up to the live renditions of [...]

I've been learning so much from just asking bands about where their name comes from, I've had a discourse on Fabio from The Motion Sick , a lesson on Andy Warhol from The Future Everybody , a comprehensive overview on the Space Program from Ho-Ag , I got embroiled in a philosophical debate with Ketman , and I learned all about Dynasty from MEandJOANCOLLINS . Today I learned all about sidewalk driving from Sidewalk Driver . Tad tells it how it is and how it came to be: [...]
It has taken me a whole week to get all the video and photos organized from the fabulous What's Your Major? shows last weekend. Full disclosure here: As you likely know, The Motion Sick 's Mike Epstein is also a co-publisher of this blog, but knowing that he won't post this, I will. Here's the band's just-finished (and AWSM) video for "Aquaman's Lament," an intended novelty song born out of their Ash Wednesday residency last year that the fans would not let die. This video was made with help from our gal Leesa . I'm looking forward to the "I Grew A Mustache" video featuring a Tom Selleck cameo.
