While the real sonic driver behind "Distorted Cymbals" is the simple two-chord guitar strum that carries the track from start to finish, it's Phil Elverum's vocals that characterize this track. He sings with the same ethereal matter-of-factness that James Murphy sometimes touches when he's wearing his heart on his sleeve. But Elverum is no idolizing, copy-cat; he sounds more like a kid dreaming out-loud in his bedroom than a conscious synthesizer of his predecessors. For an artist as prolific and ambitious with his output as Mount Eerie , it's perhaps a surprise that's it been over two years since his last release, Wind's Poem . The complete live recording of Mount Eerie's 2010 Wind's Poem tour. It was recorded in UT Connewitz, Leipzig, which is a really great venue. The sound quality is ok. Maybe it's a bit boomy, because of the hall's reverb. And so far I don't know any live recording of Wind's Poem, beside the Daytrotter Session. One of the most interesting local live shows this week has to be Mount Eerie , aka Phil Elverum , at the Berry United Methodist Church. Elverum, who formerly performed as the Microphones , is an experimental and truly indie artist who releases his own albums. Check out the video below to get a taste of his more recent musical style. The song, My Heart is Not at Peace , is off the excellent 2009 release, Wind's Poem . The church is located at 4754 N. Leavitt St.

This year was the L Magazine's third stab at its Williamsburg-based, CMJ-reminiscent Northside Festival. And from all accounts and perspectives, it was its most successful.
