Alas, it's time for the obligatory, totally subjective year-end best-of list. Plenty of worthy releases this year, so I'm sure I'm omitting some wonderful albums. I've included a track from each album. Let's see some of your top ten lists in the comment section. -- Capt. Obvious MP3: 50. Cotton Jones - Somehow To Keep It Going (from Tall Hours In The Glowstream ) MP3: 49. Warpaint - Undertow (from [...]

In addition to announcing the first legs on their U.S./European tour for spring 2011, The Low Anthem are giving away the opening track to their forthcoming album, Smart Flesh , due out in February. A free MP3 of the beautifully haunting tune, "Ghost Woman Blues," is available in exchange for an email address here or below. Come to think of it, there's an excellent video I nearly posted of Mountain Man joining The Low Anthem for a live rendition of this song earlier in the year. So be sure to grab [...]

Invisible Children Holiday Benefit 2010 As some of you might know, I work in artist relations for a pretty unbelievable organization called Invisible Children . We advocate on behalf of child soldiers fighting in East Africa, to put an end to Africa's longest running war. I'm so honored to have been able to put together a benefit show and have been waiting, waiting, waiting to finally get the chance to announce it! If you live in the LA area, you have to come to this show. We have a secret headliner that we're going to announce very [...]
Four Year Strong discussed band names and Halloween costumes in part one of their interview by Alexa Tyler & Mandy Wilson of estrella-online.com. Part two is about to get a whole lot more hypothetical! The band is currently on tour in support of their latest album, Enemy of the World. We thank Alexa, Mandy and [...]
It's been a long, cold, news-less November since we reported on Halloween that The Decemberists would drop their new album, The King Is Dead , on January 18th, 2011. Well, your patience is about to be rewarded as the Portland, OR-based band have announced a 16-date U.S. to begin at the end of January. The thaw is over indeed. The tour kicks of January 25th in New York, NY. From there, it's dates across the East Coast and Canada before the group make their way across the Midwest (with stops [...]

In all my years of going to gigs, I don't think a live show has ever been more heavily recommended to me than Jónsi 's. As his tour hit cities across America, my friends would come back and tell me how unbelievable it was, and many of them described it as life-changing. I'm delighted to say that the Sigur Rós frontman's show, the second of two he played in the Nation's Capital, more than lived up to my expectations. The music was both hauntingly beautiful and inspiringly imaginative. Combining his extraordinary music with gorgeous back-projections (courtesy of 59 [...]
Our friends Alexa Tyler & Mandy Wilson, of estrella-online.com, recently caught up with Feed The Beat band Four Year Strong when they recently played in Baltimore, MD on their Tonight We Feel Alive! Tour. We thank Alexa & Mandy for interviewing the guys and for taking some amazing photos! Could you please state your name [...]

I have to say that Jonsi doesn't really do it for me. When I listen to his music I always think, "I'm supposed to be feeling something really exciting right now, aren't I?" but I never do. Maybe I'm holding him up to too high of standards after Sigur Ros. Still, he's an incredible musician and whether it gets to the insides of my soul or not, his most recent album, Go , is pretty great. You know what else will be pretty great? Listening to Mountain Man in a space like Hammerstein. Can't you just imagine [...]
Grizzly Bear made harmonies cool. Fleet Foxes went and made it popular. Mountain Man revived the idea of just vocals and nothing else. And now Idiot Glee, aka James Friley, is doing it for the men. Yes harmonies and A'capella are making a comeback. Needless to say that Idiot Glee's [Read more]

The following article was written by Zach Collins : This past weekend, Asheville, North Carolina came alive with the spirit of Halloween and great music. People came from all across the country for MoogFest. The performers ranged from the mellow acoustics of Mountain Man all the way to the clever rhymes of Big Boi and just about everything in between. Overall, the festival was incredibly well run considering this was its inaugural year in Asheville. I had an incredible time and will definitely be returning next year! As for the [...]

You'll see a lot of things in Asheville, NC. There's the mountains, for one. Gorgeous, inviting rolling hills of all colors, surrounding the city in all its natural glory. It's awe-inspiring, to use a cliche. The nearby Blue Ridge Parkway, with its stone-cut tunnels and historic bridges, begs to be driven down, if not for a few hours then definitely for 30 minutes. Then there's the city's architecture. Established in 1784, and given its name by Governor Samuel Ashe, the city boasts its fair share of structural beauties. When the sun peaks during the day, it's hard to dismiss the [...]
Moogfest 2010 is being covered by Zach Collins : The Wild Honey Pie will soon be heading to MoogFest 2010, a celebration of the life and legacy of Bob Moog. An electronic music pioneer and inventor of the Moog synthesizer, Moog made Asheville (the location of the festival) his home for the latter part of his life. He also invented several other groundbreaking electronic instruments including the the Minimoog Voyager, the Little Phatty, the Etherwave Theremin, Moogerfoogers, and the newest addition to the Moog lineup, the Moog Guitar.
