Just in time for the sure-to-be-hazy days of summer, Morgan Kibby and friends spend a day at the beach in the video for "Mountaineer," the poppiest of the songs off White Sea's debut EP, "This Frontier." With its de rigeur face-painting and sun-splashed vibe, the Gigi Nicolas-directed clip (which premiered over the weeked on mtvU) offers a pretty straight-ahead imagining of the song, one of the five that immediately put Kibby, the M83 keyboardist/singer, on the map as a solo artist when they were released in November. I am in the midst of SXSW post-a-poolza, bulk editing photos and uploading galleries so fast carpal tunnel syndrome is now only a symptom for these hands. Between a new job, moving to Brooklyn last week, and struggling to find a decent Wi-Fi connection.. my posting abilities have been nearly non-existent. Hats off to Connor who, even when battling a post-SXSW flu last week, has been nothing short of a clockwork fountain of musical youth. If you checked out our interview with White Sea , you will have noted that the video for the ethereal Mountaineer, taken from the debut EP This Frontier , was on the way. The video premiered yesterday on MTVU and it was worth the wait! A perfect fit for the dreamy song, the video shows Morgan and friends having fun in the sun and enjoying a carefree beach day. A few nights ago, Brave Irene threw a release party for the record that contains my most-played song on iTunes . Only two of the five band members were in town, but they played through the entire eight-song mini-album (which is out now via Slumberland ). Here's another great tune from that collection. It's called "Longest Day," and it's a two-minute blast of peppy rhythms, catchy organs and charming indie pop melodies.
