Parisian producer of all things Frenchy and Touchy, Moustache Machine , had just dropped an absolute stormer of a track. It's a follow up to one of the tracks from his ' Miami 1986 ' EP of last year and whist that EP was an awesome excursion into tough French Disco, this new track is a different beast entirely. Moustache Machine defines himself as "a cosmic nu-disco producer from Paris" who "likes cheeseburgers." After listening to the guy's remix of Chromeo's "Hot Mess," his mini bio really does make sense. Cosmic? Sure, it's funky and playfully futuristic. Nu-disco? It's wonderfully corny: a chintzy caricature of disco... Like a cheeseburger, it's straightforwardly indulgent, a little camp, and it hits. Also, Moustache Machine says that if you "like photos of burgers," you should follow him on twitter. In the words of Chromeo, "WHAAAT?!"
Here's a really nice remix by the French producer Moustache Machine 's for Chromeo's "Hot Mess". I've been digging this since he uploaded it. This kid has been doing really nice jams. This work here is very chill and spacey. In fact, this remix is very different from all the other ones I've heard until today. Probably that's why i'm blogging this one. We kick things off this month with SoHight' s new ep released by my family in France, Yeah Dish recs. Gotta love this label for coming up with the goods time and time again Any surprises why this one made the cut on this blog? SoHight are two Russian blokes doing that synth pop thing, kinda like if you like Tesla Boy , you'll love them. Will never go out of style. And then, imagine taking that Russian flavour and getting the guys over in France to give their tracks a fancy new remix makeover. [...]
I'm usually skeptical about a Daft Punk remix, but all skepticism went out the window when this started playing. From Paris, Moustache Machine's remix of Voyager is excellent take on the french house classic and a real treat for the ears. Replacing the patches with relative sounds, he keeps the feeling while leaving room for a lot of his own style to flourish. Which really becomes bold during the breakdown and on through the back half of the track. Cool ending too, those bass stabs got me thinking of Human After All . [...]
It's got to be said, Moustache Machine never shy's away from making brave choices when it comes to his selections of tracks to reMix. an reMixing Daft Punk certainly takes balls. Luckily, MM has the chops to pull it off and delivers a funky as hell synthetic Disco tune that is respectful of the original and adds some of the smooth Moustache Machine French Touch to the mix. With nice work on the keys and production MM has nailed Nu-Disco again. Maybe it's time we got some more original tunes? [...]
It appears to be a day of '80's reMixes! I approached this reMix of Billy Idol 's 'White Wedding' with some caution, this could have been a total cheese-fest. Thankfully Moustache Machine never stoops that low, what he does instead is give us an awesome ElectroPop version of the track. Cold digital sounds lend the track and extra air of tension that builds until the fat distorted Electro synths join the party. It all works surprisingly, and wonderfully well with Mr. Idols instantly recognisable vocal. ♫ [...]
